NEW ZEALAND EXHIBITION & CONFERENCE CONFERENCE PROGRAMME BRINGING INTERNATIONAL FOCUS TO NZ OIL & GAS OFFICIAL CONFERENCE SPONSOR DAY 1 - WEDNESDAY: 22 OCTOBER 2014 DAY 1 - WEDNESDAY: 22 OCTOBER 2014 8.00am REGISTRATION AND MORNING COFFEE 11.45am 9.00am MINISTERIAL WELCOME 9.30am OPENING KEYNOTE Exploration in Environmentally Sensitive Areas - Lessons learned from Australian experience Dr Tim Kemmitt, Principal Research Scientist, Callaghan Innovation Centre Innovation is the lifeblood of successful businesses. It can take many forms from a simple adjustment in the way things are accomplished, reported or delivered, to a game changing development or adoption of new technology. Lucy Muir, Environment Manager, S2V Consulting With the exception of the Taranaki Basin, much of the New Zealand Exclusive Economic Zone has been subject to little oil and gas exploration, and existing baseline ecological data is often lacking. Case studies of oil and gas exploration (seismic surveys and exploration drilling) in two highly sensitive and relatively unexplored regions of Australia will be presented covering the issues which arose during the preparation for exploration activities and the mitigation measures used to reduce potential impacts to environmental sensitivities with conclusions for New Zealand. Lucy Muir is a degree-qualified marine biologist and oceanographer who has worked in the fields of marine conservation and oil and gas exploration and production for over 7 years. 10.30am MORNING TEA BREAK 11.00am The importance of Health Incident Plans in the Oil and Gas Industry The presentation will cover several case studies of R&D projects. Dr Tim Kemmitt completed his PhD at the University of Southampton and worked in New Zealand since 1989 as a materials research professional. Currently employed as a researcher and technical expert in coatings, thin-films, and nanotechnology at Callaghan Innovation. 12.30pm LUNCH 1.30pm Efficiency in the Oil and Gas Supply Chain: Working in partnership, achieving the goal Joint presentation by Jim Burkett, Brad Kemp and Justin Kyngdon from Expeditors Oil and Gas companies that successfully utilise their supply chain data can leverage it as a competitive advantage. Big data and analytics systems offer oil and gas companies the chance to semi-automate their logistics and supply chain operations and to make better informed procurement decisions. Dr Andrew Ebringer, Medical Director, International SOS An infectious disease outbreak can very quickly render a vessel, rig or site inoperative, adding huge additional costs to projects. Having a plan to deal with a health incident is vital. Acceleration of Innovation 2.15pm The Next Generation of Topside Process Simulator – A Sample Case Study John Koo, Senior Vice President, Global Technology Operations, KBC Advanced Technology Pte Ltd This presentation will use a case study of a norovirus outbreak on a vessel with more than 120 workers to outline the elements of an effective health incident plan. Process simulation modelling is an essential tool for forecasting and optimization of surface facilities for oil and gas fields, under development or in operation. Next generation products enable more effective and efficient facilities process studies on a single software platform. Dr Ebringer, oversees the delivery of medical services, including occupational health, to major energy, mining and infrastructure client sites in the Australasian region. In this role Dr Ebringer also develops and coordinates control programs for malaria and other vector borne diseases and provides clinical governance leadership to site health staff. John Koo is the Senior Vice President for Global Technology Operations for KBC Advanced Technology Pte Ltd. He has more than 24 years’ experience with KBC in various assignments in USA, Europe, South America, Middle East, and Asia. 3.00pm AFTERNOON TEA BREAK NEW ZEALAND EXHIBITION & CONFERENCE CONFERENCE PROGRAMME BRINGING INTERNATIONAL FOCUS TO NZ OIL & GAS DAY 1 - WEDNESDAY: 22 OCTOBER 2014 3.30pm DAY 2- THURSDAY: 23 OCTOBER 2014 A review of methodologies of Seismic Noise Monitoring Liam Hodgetts was educated at Auckland University and started his professional life as an urban planner in New Zealand. He has extensive experience in Australia and New Zealand in long-term planning, statutory planning and economic development. Sofia Patricio, Marine Acoustic Scientist, Gardline The need for monitoring noise of anthropogenic activities is increasing globally in line with appropriate local legislation. Currently there is no standard for the monitoring of seismic noise. Previous noise assessment surveys have used the seismic streamer itself to make acoustic recordings, which produces data with many limitations. A review of the methodologies available is therefore essential in order to obtain reliable and accurate results for the assessment of noise against the MMIA. 9.45am WRAP UP AND CONCLUDE DAY 1 5.00pm SUNDOWNER NETWORKING FUNCTION Driving Culture Change is a Key to Improving Safety in the Workplace Andrew Wilson, DuPont Sustainable Solutions, DuPont Australia Pty Ltd Too much attention is being paid to ‘ticking the box’ with regulations and not enough time and effort is being invested in driving cultural change across the workforce. Through a conscious decision to change, the industry and individual organisations can move from a production-concentration to a focus on business results and productivity being improved through a highperformance safety culture. Sofia Patricio is lead consultant on NZ sound transmission loss modelling, ground truthing projects and development of Marine Mammal Impact Assessments (MMIA) under the NZ Department of Conservation 2013 Code of Conduct for Minimising Acoustic Disturbance to Marine Mammals from Seismic Survey Operations. She is responsible for the development and implementation of acoustic mitigation, monitoring and recording for Gardline’s Marine Wildlife Department projects. 4.30pm OFFICIAL CONFERENCE SPONSOR Andrew Wilson’s expertise is operational and business excellence, including ensuring an injury free workplace. He has specialised in providing consulting solutions to organisations in the areas of Operational Excellence, Contractor Safety Management and Process Safety & Risk Management (PSRM). 10.30am MORNING TEA BREAK 11.00am IMPROVING WORKPLACE SAFETY – PANEL DISCUSSION Chair - Dr Andrew Ebringer, Medical Director, International SOS Panel Members: • Anna Gregor, Quality and Compliance Manager, Nexans Olex NZ • Paul Tolich, EPMU Union representative • Don Gutsell, Managing Director, ProMed International • Andrew Wilson, Dupont Sustainable Solutions DAY 2- THURSDAY: 23 OCTOBER 2014 8.00am REGISTRATION AND MORNING COFFEE 8.50am DAY 2 INTRODUCTION 9.00am OPENING KEYNOTE TERMS OF ENGAGEMENT Liam Hodgetts, General Manager Strategy, New Plymouth District Council Territorial authority regulators and operators need to better understand each other’s responsibilities and challenges. The regulatory process is the “statutory minimum” but early engagement can make the process so much smoother. Open and honest communications are win win – for the industry, the regulators and the community. The four Councils in Taranaki have agreed to work together to improve the regulatory approach to oil and gas in the region. This will have direct benefits for the industry by ensuring greater consistency in the planning process, but also greater transparency for the community. 12.30pm LUNCH NEW ZEALAND EXHIBITION & CONFERENCE CONFERENCE PROGRAMME BRINGING INTERNATIONAL FOCUS TO NZ OIL & GAS DAY 2- THURSDAY: 23 OCTOBER 2014 1.30pm WHY THE COMMON APPROACH TO ASSET CRITICALITY IS EXPOSING US TO RISK Peter Nichols, Principal Asset Performance Consultant, ITL Asset criticality is a key tool to enable business to prioritise their focus and effort, in theory ensuring that with limited resources the most important aspects of our operations get the lion’s share of the attention. In reality though, flawed assessments potentially mask real, tangible risks to people and operations and misdirect effort as a result. This paper considers the commonly applied methodologies for the determination of asset criticality, focussing specifically on where these assessments fail. Further it will propose an alternate, augmented approach that provides a more realistic assessment of real business risk, ensuring that the limited resources available are utilised most efficiently in minimising that risk. With over 19 years industry experience, Peter Nichols is a highly skilled and qualified engineer who has worked across a wide range of industries including mining, oil & gas, manufacturing, waste water and power generation. Recent projects include maintenance improvement projects with optimized work management processes, structural reorganization of maintenance departments, optimization of asset management strategies for diverse Oil & Gas and mining assets and the implementation of zero based operations and maintenance budgeting for clients including Vector, Santos, Oil Search, Anglo American and Loy Yang Power. 2.15pm WELDING APPLICATIONS ON ‘IN SERVICE’ TRANSMISSION PIPELINES Brian Aitchison and Ian Johnston, Vector The presentation will cover weld procedures specific to ‘in service’ applications, including case study covering recent development work on the Maui Natural Gas Transmission pipeline. Brian Aitchison is a Mechanical Technician for Vector and a CBIP weld inspector. Brian has spent over 20 years involved with all aspects of welding, repairs, hot tapping and plugging on high pressure transmission systems and specialises in ‘hot tapping’ and pipeline repairs. Ian Johnston has extensive experience (18+ years) with various weld processes and materials, is a weld instructor and CBIP qualified weld inspector. 3.00pm CONCLUDING REMARKS AND CONFERENCE ENDS 3.15pm AFTERNOON TEA 3.45pm FINAL OPPORTUNITY TO VISIT EXPO OFFICIAL CONFERENCE SPONSOR HOW TO REGISTER FOR CONFERENCE: A separate registration form must be completed for each delegate attending.
