Management Intensive Week in Lahti

HRKM module teachers. In this Careman Project
HRKM intensive week experts from the field
organizations and services have provided two
concise presentations highlighting achievements in
human resource knowledge management. Mirkka
Ruohonen and Juha-Pekka Tolonen presented their
point of view about HR Services in the City of
Lahti and Monica Hostio shared with the
participants the case of HR and Knowledge
Management at Päijät-Häme social and health
care services.
An intensive week about human resources and
knowledge management took place on 20 to 24
April 2015 in Lahti, Finland (Fellmannia
auditorium at Lahti University of Applied
Sciences). Master’s degree students in the fields of
health and social care as well as five higher
education institution partners in four European
countries were invited to attend the event. The
welcome address, introduction to the programme
and practical instructions of the intensive week
have been given by Päivi Huotari and Mari
Kokkonen, from Lahti UAS (administrative and
academic coordinator of the Careman Project).
After three days of intensive activities with formal
presentations and informal work together, all
participants have been invited to join a HRM and
Knowledge Management Symposium. During the
first day, the event has provided outstanding
presentations and discussions on the HR topics
such as Managing Organizational Knowledge
(Mikko Mäntyneva), Customer Centric HRM –
some viewpoints to HRM from Manager’s and
Leader’s Perspective (Juha Mickels), Agenda of
Change - Major restructure of HR in the National
Health Service (Gerri Matthews-Smith), Diversity
Management (Keith O'hiobhaird). After the plenary
presentations of the first day, six workshops in
Finnish or English were held.
During the first three days of the HRKM intensive
week the main activities were held this included: a
set of instructions about online learning,
experience-based learning through problem solving
activities and discussion between HRKM module
teachers and students. In the second day the
students presented their portfolios in a session
under the coordination of Fiona Duncan and other

emphasized in the first day workshops were as

työhyvinvoinnin näkökulmasta (Sari Miettinen),
Itsensä johtaminen - Työkaluja työuran hallintaan ja
osaamisen kehittämiseen (Tommy Larvi ja Anna
Vanhala), Vuorovaikutus esimies-alaissuhteessa
(Leena Haapola), Personnel in Turbulent
Organisational Change (Markus Kräkin), Formal
qualification and life-long learning requirements on
HR in health and social services (Matej Lejsal).
Some evidences from HR intensive week
In the second day of the Symposium others HR
topics were presented and discussed: Employee
engagement (Fiona Duncan), Strategic Management
and HR (Antti Joensuu), Leadership and Resistance
during the Organizational Change (Lada
Furmanikova), Something to talk about… (Mari
Kokkonen). Five workshops in Finnish or English
have been held in the second day, discussing topics
such as Hajautetun työn johtaminen

Itsensä johtaminen - Työkaluja työuran hallintaan ja

In five days of HR intensive week industry experts,
HR module teachers, Careman Project members and
students discussed case studies, challenges and
opportunities of future about human resource
knowledge management.
