The following are two examples of Unicat's advanced catalyst technology.
Unicat NG-700-LPD Series SynGas reforming catalysts are a patent-pending MAH (multi-axial
hole) design with domed ends, four side-wall channels, four holes parallel to the cylinder axis
hole, plus two holes that are perpendicular and through the cylinder axis and are oriented 90 0 to
each other. The NG-700-LPD Series SynGas catalysts can lower the pressure drop up to 20%
and increase the available, active surface area more than 15% versus all other currently
available steam reforming catalysts. The patented production procedure for the LPD series
catalyst with MAH design permits the catalyst crush strength to remain quite high and
comparable to standard reforming catalysts.
NG-700-LPD Series
catalyst
Unicat HS-500 is a very high activity, CuO promoted HTS catalyst with a post reduction crush
strength >27 lb-f, the highest in the industry. The HS-500 's high density and high post reduction
crush strength allows the product to tolerate a tremendous amount of water carry over and
turbulence without breakage. HS-500 is a proven product with exceptional thermal resistance. For
example, a large SynGas plant experienced high exotherms for over six months with respective
inlet and outlet temperatures of 780 0 F and 900 0 F due to waste heat boiler (WHB) fouling . After
WHB repairs and cleaning , Unicat's HS-500 Series high temperature shift catalyst exhibited
excellent sintering resistance and thermal stability. The HTS returned to service and respective
inlet and outlet temperatures were 680 F and 825 F, without a loss of conversion activity.

SPA POLYMERIZATION CATALYSTS
Polymerization-SPA catalyst systems
Unicat PolyCat II and III are the latest generations, since the introduction of PolyCat I in 2003, of Unicat's solid phosphoric
acid (SPA) based polymerization catalysts for use in manufacturing octane boost ing, high molecular weight hydrocarbons
in tubular or chamber type , fixed bed reactors . PolyCat is used for the oligomerization of light oletins to produce C9 - C12,
poly-gasoline or the alkylation of aromatics with gaseous olefins to yield high-purity, alkyl-aromatics, such as Cumene.
PolyCat II was developed to provide the highest resistance to pressure drop formation and is typically installed in tubular
reactors or in designated pressure drop limited beds of chamber reactors. PolyCat III has the highest yield of Unicat's
PolyCat series and is installed in SPA type reactors where maximum activity is typically the only consideration.

A unique aspect of Unicat's bed design technology is its proprietary AFS
(active filtration system) bed protection filter disk grading technology that
is used to filter fines in hydrotreating units, sulfur guard beds and chloride
guard beds. Practically any solid specimen that may cause premature
EOR pressure drop conditions can be filtered . Unicat's proven and
patented technology significantly increases lifetimes of pressure drop
sensitive units, up to 200% or more.
AFS has also proven itself in SynGas plants and other applications . In
SynGas plants, the high thermal shock resistance and numerous flow
channels of AFS minimize or prevent the pressure drop increase in
high temperature shift beds that can be caused by water or condensate
carryover. A thin (-12 inch) layer at the top of the bed prevents pressure
drop increase by dissipating the carryover before it reaches the HTS
catalyst, thus preventing break apart and "popcorning" .
AFS installed on top of the HDS and rnethanator beds can also mitigate
the pressure drop increase caused by carryover of cracked natural gas in
the HDS and amines in the methanator.
In other applications, AFS has been installed in hydrocrackers,
ultraformer catalytic reformers , sulfur guards and tail gas units to filter
fines. AFS also filters ammonium chloride salts in chloride beds that can
cause pressure drop increase and premature EOR conditions.
The open, controlled dimension channels of AFS mitigate pressure
drop increase. They maintain and distribute flow, while also filtering
the pressure drop-causing particulates through the high fraction , fully
flow-accessible internal void spaces of AFS. Unicat's AFS systems are
installed in units worldwide .
