WOMEN
DISTINCTION
of
Girl Scouts of South Carolina
Mountains to Midlands
Women of Distinction
Nomination Packet Forms
History
First launched in 1993, the Women of Distinction Event is a recognition and fundraising dinner
that celebrates and honors outstanding women from the Midlands area for their professional
accomplishments, service to others, and impact on their community. Each year the Girl Scouts
call upon the public to help identify women who exemplify excellence both through their professional achievements as well as their community volunteerism. Honorees are chosen based on four
criteria: professional/community leadership, professional/community service, strong role model
for girls and community visibility.
One of the highlights of this event is a video presentation in which selected honorees have the opportunity to share the contributions they have made in improving the quality of life in our community. Their achievements and visibility set a powerful example for our 18,500 girls and volunteers
involved in Girl Scouting.
Today, Girl Scouts of South Carolina—Mountains to Midlands, Inc. serves all girls ages 5-17 throughout 22 counties of the Midlands and Upstate regions of South Carolina. Girl Scouting exists to
transform today’s girls into tomorrow’s leaders. Girls today face many critical issues including
school bullying, childhood obesity, teen pregnancy, issues of self-esteem, substance abuse and
pressure to perform in school. Participation in Girl Scouting is proven to make a life-long difference. Our leadership, Board Chair Rebecca Lever and CEO Kim Hutzell, along with a 22-member
volunteer Board of Directors, remains committed to being an advocate for every girl, everywhere
and building girls of courage, confidence, and character so that they may make the world a better
place.
Eligibility
Nominees must reside within the Midlands Regional Service Area of the Girl Scouts of South Carolina’s service jurisdiction (including Aiken, Chester, Edgefield, Fairfield, Kershaw, Lancaster, Lexington, Richland, Saluda, and Sumter counties), but DO NOT have to be former Girl Scouts. Once all
nominations are submitted, a panel will review each nomination and make selections based on the
following criteria:
1. Professional/Community Leadership
2. Professional/Community Service
3. Strong Role Model for Girls
4. Community Visibility
Names are removed before nominations are sent to the selection committee to make the process
as non-biased as possible. Nominations are reviewed on a year-to-year basis. Those who have
been nominated in the past and were not selected may be nominated again.
