This bulletin, updated on a weekly basis, lists our current job vacancies. A City of Hobbs Application is available in the Human
Resources Department, and may be returned to the same office or mailed to the address above. A resume will only be accepted
with a fully completed City of Hobbs application packet. Our office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
mountain time.
Positions will be posted for at least five (5) New Mexico Department of Labor working days and may be closed at any time
thereafter. The Human Resources Department bulletin board is the official posting. APPLICANTS WILL BE REQUIRED TO
UNDERGO AND PASS A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE TEST IF A CONDITIONAL OFFER OF EMPLOYMENT IS EXTENDED.
Applicants may undergo a criminal history background, reference check and polygraph examination; upon a conditional job offer a
drug screen, agility test, functional capacity evaluation, psychological evaluation and medical screening will be conducted. Some
convictions or deferred adjudication may be considered a contraindication for employment with the City of Hobbs. Employees who
are required to possess a commercial drivers license (CDL) are required to undergo alcohol and controlled substance testing which
include pre-employment (controlled substance only), post-accident, reasonable suspicion, return to duty, follow-up and random

SELECTION GUIDELINES
Formal application, review of education and experience; oral interview and reference check; job related tests may be required. The
City of Hobbs requires applicants applying for a clerical position to take a typing, keyboard skills and 10-key test upon return of
application to the Human Resources Department. This test is conducted by the Human Resources Office. The testing hours are
Monday thru Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Test results, pass or fail, are valid for six (6)
months. Applicants may retest every seven (7) calendar days.
Applications are position specific. An applicant may apply for one position on a single application form; any additional or new
positions must have a new application submitted.

refunds for weekly payables. Ensures that purchase orders match with invoices and invoices with check
requests. Keys travel requests into the system for payment. Verifies that all documents have correct codes
and are signed by authorized personnel. Verifies that all previous payments have been paid correctly.
Manually types checks as needed. Sets up new vendor or refund accounts and updates for existing account
information.
Enters all large payables in a spreadsheet to ensure entries are applied to the correct department and
verifies any unusual changes in current bills before payment is made.
Researches any accounts payable or past due invoices for vendors. Reconciles monthly vendor statements.
Assists all departments with purchase orders and invoices and determines the method of payment. Assists
department heads with corrections or changes regarding account information.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Assist journeyman plumber in maintaining, repairing or installing plumbing work for city pools,

plumbing installation, service, and repair activities. Maintains daily activity logs and maintenance
records on assigned equipment. Performs calculations to prepare material and work sites for
installation, maintenance or repair, such as pipe dimensions, line layout, ditch and line grading,
angles and distances. Inspects and repairs leaks, obstructions, and general system failures. Installs,
maintains and repairs potable water systems such as faucets, flushometers, drinking fountains, pipes,

natural gas systems such as flex lines and heaters. Inspects and repairs worn out or loose fixtures

inspection of available lots. Communicates with engineering staff in surveying lots and Clerk’s office
with information confirming interments and verifying lot ownership and availability. Coordinates with

National Registry certified EMT’s must enroll and complete NM EMT bridge course as soon as possibly upon appointment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Monitors and maintains equipment in relation to the wastewater treatment plant and pump stations on assigned shift. Ensures that

protect public health. Monitors and as directed, operates computerized control systems and related equipment within the wastewater

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Under general supervision from the Utilities Director maintains responsibility for the management and operation of the
water production, distribution and sewer collection systems. Plans, organizes, budgets, directs, instructs, sets
standards, reviews, trains, counsels/disciplines employees, and performs other personnel management functions.
In consultation with the Utilities Director formulates short and long-range plans and goals for the water production, water
distribution and sewer collection functions. Works with various city boards. Maintains responsibility for programs such
as the water line replacement program, providing initial design and bidding of projects. Provides inspection of all utility
projects. Prepares cost estimates for water and/or sewer taps, line charges, etc. Prepares first draft of the annual
budget request for consideration by the Utilities Director, who reviews and submits to the City Manager and the City
Commission. Maintains responsibility for water, sewer, productions and joint utility construction fund budgets.
PREFERRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in civil or sanitary engineering or related field, plus eight (8) years of experience in a
supervisory capacity with a water or wastewater utility or related field. Or an equivalent combination of
education and experience.
