Feast of All Saints
First Saturday
This Saturday, November 1, we will
celebrate the Feast of All Saints. It
is on this Feast we are assured that
directing our lives toward God and doing His work is very
possible and very rewarding. On All Saints Day, human
individuals are honored as examples of how to live in the
presence of God, even while here on earth. Our lives should
reflect to all we meet, how important our Faith is to us as we
travel on our journey through life on our way to being Saints
in Heaven. Because All Saints falls on a Saturday, the
Feast is not a Holyday of Obligation. This Saturday is
also the First Saturday of the month. Our Mass on Saturday will be at 8:00 a.m.
Feast of All Souls, November 2, Next Sunday
Each year, on All Souls Day, our Church grants each of us
the opportunity to gain a Plenary Indulgence. There are
two plenary indulgences attached to All Souls Day, one
for visiting a church and another for visiting a cemetery.
(The plenary indulgence for visiting a cemetery can also be
obtained every day from November 1-8, and, as a partial
indulgence, on any day of the year.) While the actions are
performed by the living, the merits of the indulgences are
applicable only to the souls in Purgatory.
This means, as God sees fit, a soul may be freed from Purgatory as a direct result of your prayers and good works on All
Souls Day. Only one Indulgence can be earned per day.
This indulgence may be gained if:
1. you are in a state of Grace,
2. you attend Mass and receive Holy Communion,
3. you pray for the intention of the Holy Father,
which we do that day at Mass.
Please dedicate your day next Sunday to helping a soul be
freed from Purgatory by remembering the
Poor Souls at Mass, as well as with extra
prayer, fasting and/or other appropriate sacrifices. This is our Catholic Faith! Our Masses
on Sunday will be at 8:00 a.m. & 11:00 a.m.
All Souls Remembrance
Our Church sets aside the month of November to remember
the souls in Purgatory. As Catholics, we believe that the
temporal punishment of deceased persons may be shortened
in Purgatory and that we, here on earth, are in a position to
help shorten their agony through our prayers and sacrifices.
We can apply our prayers, good works, sacrifices and penance for them specifically during the month of November. You may request Masses for your deceased loved ones
by using the 'All Souls' envelope. Also remember we can do
this throughout the year.
Maria Reina Coupon Books
The NEW 2014 –2015 restaurant coupon
books for Maria Reina are being sold in
the back before and after all Masses. All
proceeds go to the Christmas gifts for the
children. Cost this year is $12.00. Coupons are good through 2015.
