Golf News from the Pro How to hook the ball to escape from the trees: By Joe Powell, Director of Golf & PGA Professional Often times golfers will find themselves in the trees and they need to know how to escape and get on the green or simply back into play. Being able to hook the ball drastically will help you get back in play. It is very important to follow these steps: u Choose a club with sufficient loft as you will need the loft to get out of the rough, and also you will be de-lofting the club slightly as you hit the hook. v Close your stance, i.e. aim your feet and body to the right, where you want the ball to start. w Next, aim your clubface where you want the ball to finish. x Move the ball back in your stance about one ball width. y Now, most important, swing the club along the line where your feet and body are aiming. The ball will start to the right and hook back towards the fairway and/or green. With a little practice you will become an escape artist! You can email me at [email protected] for suggestions for next month’s tip or to set up a lesson.
