The ceremony honors the best of the best in the Upstate’s hospitality industry. The Upstate Hospitality Awards offer you, as hotel and restaurant operators, the opportunity to nominate your outstanding employees, offering not only recognition within the company, but in the Upstate of South Carolina for their contribution to your business. Recipients of the Upstate awards will be automatically nominated into the statewide SCRLA Stars of South Carolina Hospitality Awards. Categories include recognition of hoteliers and restaurateurs who are dedicated to their business, industry and community, along with several categories recognizing outstanding business contributions of community or customer service. Please use the official nomination form on the last page of this brochure and include additional material to describe why your nominee deserves the award. Provide examples and give as much specific information as possible. Printed and other supporting materials should be included. Examples include undertaking special services, showing outstanding leadership qualities, performing heroic deeds or consistently adding to the general well-being of the hospitality industry. INDIVIDUAL OR BUSINESS AWARDS FRONT OF HOUSE EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR (Two awards - Hotel and Restaurant) Nominees are judged on performance that goes above and beyond the normal job expectations both at and away from work, including outstanding and unusual service to their company, to their customers and to their community. Nominees must be employed in a non-managerial position in a front of house position with regular daily customer contact, work at least 20 hours per week and have served the industry for at least three years. To be eligible, nominee must be working in a SCRLA member property. HEART OF HOUSE EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR (Two awards - Hotel and Restaurant) Nominees are judged on performance that goes above and beyond the normal job expectations both at and away from work, including outstanding and unusual service to their company, to their customers and to their community. Nominees must be employed in a non-managerial position in a back of house position with minimal customer contact, work at least 20 hours per week and have served the industry for at least three years. To be eligible, nominee must be working in a SCRLA member property. MANAGEMENT EMPLOYEE OF THE YEAR (Two awards - Hotel and Restaurant) Nominees are judged on performance that goes above and beyond the normal job expectations both at and away from work, including outstanding and unusual service to their company, to their customers and to their community. Nominees must be employed in a managerial position, work fulltime and have served the industry for at least three years. To be eligible, nominee must be working in a SCRLA member property. HOTELIER OF THE YEAR This award honors the hotel owner, manager, or company that shows not only exemplary customer service, employee relations, community service, and their dedication to advancing the lodging industry of South Carolina. To be eligible, nominee must be working in or be a SCRLA member property. RESTAURATEUR OF THE YEAR This award honors the restaurant owner, manager, or company that shows not only exemplary customer service, employee relations, community service, and their dedication to advancing the foodservice industry of South Carolina. To be eligible, nominee must be working in or be a SCRLA member property. OUTSTANDING CHEF OF THE YEAR This award honors the chef that shows exemplary culinary knowledge and skills in a restaurant or hospitality environment. To be eligible, a nominee must be working in or be a SCRLA member property. OUTSTANDING BARTENDER OF THE YEAR This award honors the bartender who shows exemplary bartending knowledge and skills in a restaurant or hospitality environment. To be eligible, a nominee must be working in or be a SCRLA member property. BUSINESS PUBLIC RELATIONS AWARDS COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD Community Service Award is given for a program that demonstrate to residents that the business is responsive to the local community. Examples include campaigns to benefit local or national service organizations or charities, service to any part of the community through a special project, and joint undertakings with community groups for the benefit of the area. EDUCATOR OF THE YEAR This award honors a person in the education field for outstanding achievement in contributing innovative ideas, methods or programs that have advanced teaching, learning or practice in the field of hospitality and tourism education. SUPPLIER OF THE YEAR Nominees must be a company or someone employed by a SCRLA member company supplying products and/or services to the hospitality industry. Nominees are judged on industry involvement beyond their normal exceptional service and quality, and on their history of working to advance the hospitality industry’s reputation and business expertise.
