“Once one becomes a disciple of Jesus
Christ, stewardship is not an option.”
Stewardship: A Disciple’s Response, USCCB Pastoral Letter on Stewardship
In the Gospel this week…
There is one word or command that summarizes today’s
Gospel - love. For Jesus there is no distinction between
these two commands of loving God and neighbor. One
naturally flows from the other. In fact, for Jesus, these
commands constitute a way of life for Christian stewards;
a unique approach to life and to their relationship with
others. Our neighbors include everyone with whom we
come into contact: family members, friends, people we
don’t like, strangers and particularly those most in need of
our love and compassion. Love is always for doing well
and helping others grow closer to the Lord. What are ways
in which we might do better at following Christ’s love
command?

“Whoever sacrifices to any god, save to the Lord only, shall
be utterly destroyed.” – Exodus 22:20
Do you put other “gods” before God? Is your love of
money, power, status or some personal possession greater
than your love for God? If so, you may want to pay
attention to the scripture reading because you are not
going to like the outcome. The good news – it’s not too late
to put God first in your life.

Love Shown in Action
Do you receive the word of God
with joy as the Thessalonians did?
Their faith showed in their actions.
They became models for other
believers.
Love is the greatest
commandment - love of God
and love of neighbor.
Everything else is based on
this.
The first reading tells us to put our
faith into action. This
passage is part of a long list
of ordinances God
commanded the Israelites to
observe. God will judge us
by how we treat our
neighbors. God will hear the
cries of any whom we
neglect or mistreat and will
come to their defense.

In today's Gospel the
Pharisees put the question
of God's law to Jesus.
"Which commandment of the
law is the greatest?”
(Matthew 22:36) How could
he possibly choose from all
the detailed commandments
the Jews observed? He was
sure to offend somebody by
his answer!
Of course, Jesus went right
to the heart of the matter.

Plan for Childcare on St. Anne’s Campus
In the spring, we were notified by
the Diocese that our insurance
would no longer cover childcare
(except for nursery during
Masses) on campus unless it was
administered through an
accredited program. Mrs.
Arrington and the Catholic
Schools Office were able to add
three year olds to the SACS
accreditation for the current year,
however, with these age
restrictions, we were unable to
accommodate the remaining
children in the church Mother’s
Morning Out Program. Mrs.
Arrington and Fr. McCarthy have
been working with the Bright From
the Start Program in GA to
provide accreditation for childcare
in the current church and school
buildings.
The first steps involve proper
zoning through the Muscogee
County Planning Office. We will
be posting the required signs at
the entrances to our Campus for
the next 45 to 60 days in order to
amend our current zoning to allow
for childcare under age 3. We
are looking forward to this
opportunity to expand our church
and school mission to these
younger children and their
families.
