VOL. 63 November 2014 Number 11 ~ General Meeting~ November 5th ~ ~ Work Bee ~ November 23rd ~ PRESIDENT’S COLUMN Hello everyone, The "Haunted Forest" opened this weekend with all new displays and some new actors. What a great time. All the people that have made this year’s event as resounding success so far, need to be proud of yourselves. Astronomical numbers of hours are required to hold this important event. Next weekend I expect the event will be bigger than this weekend. It takes about 50-60 people per night to run the event so there is lots of opportunity to volunteer. Thank you to all. The elegant Great Egret is a dazzling sight in many a North American wetland. They hunt in classic heron fashion, standing immobile or wading through wetlands to capture fish with a jab of their yellow bill. Great Egrets stand up to three feet tall, and have a wingspan of almost six feet. For their size, their body weight is only about two pounds. Great Egrets were hunted nearly to extinction for their plumes in the late 1800’s, sparking conservation movements and some of the first 4 laws to protect birds. 2015 Committee Budgets are Due Please Drop Them In My Box At The Club.
