Letter from our President
I encourage everyone to complete two paintings for our Fall Juried Show. By the time
you read this, your paintings should be framed and ready to go to take –in on October
25th. But, if you are a last minute painter...keep going till the last minute!!
Please review the important Show information in this newsletter, and read over the Show
Standards on the website. New members and first-time workshop entrants should
especially take time to review the Standards, as framing and matting standards ensure a
uniformly framed show which focuses on the art, rather than the frame. If your painting
does not meet Standards, it cannot be accepted for the Show.
See you at take-in and at the meeting on October 28.
Feel free to email me with your ideas and comments: [email protected].
Artist of the Year
JWS will honor the Artist of the Year, Joyce Gabiou. during
the opening reception for the Fall Show on November 2nd.
Joyce will have an exhibit of her work in the hall gallery of the
Cultural Center concurrent with the JWS Juried Show, and will
receive her pin, plaque and award during the awards
presentation of the reception.
In describing her work, Joyce says:
I share the core of myself and the creative process
with the viewer.
I do this abstractly - painting, collaging and mixing
media as the process sees fit.
My media are water media and collage.
These paintings are generated from within. They
embrace the intuitive emotion of form, color and
composition. They are not meant to be
"understood" or "explained,” but rather to invoke a
feeling, regardless of what that feeling is.”

FANTASTIC SEPTEMBER MEETING
September’s meeting was an exciting review of the
images and history of Lincolnville as seen through the
sketches and watercolors of Rosamond Parrish. Her
presentation was a fascinating history of the culture
and colors that are Lincolnville as well as an
education in the art of creating a sketchbook journal.
She signed copies and gave away a wonderful print
from her collection of watercolors.
Entry Form for the Fall Show
Entry forms will be available at take in and on the website or you may use this one. Artists
