Friday 6th February 2015
Dear Parents,
19
I can’t believe how quickly time flies – one more week and then it is half term! Don’t forget that our last day before
the half term break is Thursday 12th February as Friday is a non-pupil day. Also, on the Thursday, we are having a
non-uniform day in aid of the Cruse bereavement charity.
Gavin Tyte, Ms Porter and I have been busy working on the Beer website this week and we have a working page that
has gone live. It is very much work in progress with some factual inaccuracies which we will sort in the coming
days. Staff are chomping at the bit to be able to edit and upload information, so look out for some new features in
the coming weeks. Remember the website has links to Puffins, The Ark Federation and also All Saints School. The
address is www.beer-ce-primary.devon.sch.uk
This week, I am pleased to be able to share the proposed design for our outside learning area. This includes a cabin
to provide an extra working space as well as a spiritual garden. As always, we would love to hear your views and
feedback so please fill in the comment slip at the end of the flier which Ms Porter and I can then collate and share
with the governors.
On Monday, our Year 5 children have their final Axe Valley Gospel Choir workshop in the afternoon. This time, all
the children that have taken part will be coming together to practise before a final performance which is open to
parents. I am very aware that it is in the middle of the day so it may be difficult to attend, but we will take lots of
photographs, video as much as possible and share this with you at a later date. However, should you be able to
attend the timings are as follows:
1pm All children start the final rehearsal at Seaton Town Hall
1.45pm - Short run through of schools’ individual items
2pm –
Arrival of any parents that wish to watch
2.10pm – Concert starts
2.45 –
Concert ends
Year 3/4 Swimming Gala
This week, some of our year 3/4 children took part in a swimming gala at the Flamingo Pool in Axminster. Five
other schools participated in a variety of different races which included some fun obstacle events as well. The
children performed brilliantly both individually and as part of a team and were selected as one of the best supporters
of the other schools participating. We are delighted to announce that we came first which is a terrific achievement
although we were closely followed by All Saints who came third. Congratulations to all our swimmers for their
conduct and demonstrating the school values throughout the afternoon – Kaitlyn Flannigan, Jennifer Patchett, Innes
FitzGerald, Luca Radford, Scarlett Knivett, Bella Wigham, Isabelle Burley, Jake Paget, Josh Priestley, Dylan
Arnold, Harvey Green, Roman Moore, Christian Pinnock and Leo Gribble.
Next week I will be in school on Monday and Thursday.
Family Phonics – Reception Parents
A reminder to Reception parents that the family phonics session will take place this Wednesday 9.00 – 10.00am.
KS1 Universal Free School Meals Choices
As the Spring Term is so short, we will not be asking parents to re-submit menu choices for the second half of the
term. However, if there are any amendments you would like to make then please let the office know by Wednesday
11th February. Your child should have brought a letter home yesterday including a reminder of this term’s menu
options. PLEASE NOTE IF YOU ARE HAPPY WITH YOUR CHILD’S CHOICES, THEN YOU DO NOT
NEED TO DO ANYTHING.
West Country School of Music
There will be NO lessons on Wednesday 11th February. The next lesson will be after the half term break on
Wednesday 25th February.
Emergency Procedures – Bad Weather
A decision will be made by 7.45am. The next step is to inform parents. We will notify you by text message via
Parent Mail so please ensure that we have all your up to date information. Also, we will inform BBC Radio Devon
and Heart Radio or please check for updates on the school’s Twitter page, the address is @BeerCofEPrimary. If you
do not have internet access, you can ring the school after 8.30am but obviously the line may be busy, so please be
patient. In all circumstances, if you feel that your local conditions prevent you from getting to school safely, do not
travel. If the school is open and you cannot risk the journey, please contact the school after 9am.
