A Knitting trip to IRELAND ~ May 21 TO Jun 02, 2015 with Amy Detjen We’ll have you in stitches Thursday 21: Depart USA for Ireland—Depart USA on your overnight flight to Shannon, Ireland. www.celtic-journeys.com Fri 22: Shannon to Galway Arrive Shannon Airport where your driver/guide will be waiting to take you north to the city of Galway. This lively university city is easy to stroll around the narrow streets and explore. Check-in to your hotel with the afternoon at leisure to relax before enjoying a welcome evening dinner. Sat 23: Connemara Tour & Knitting with the locals Breakfast at your hotel followed by departure through the rugged beauty of Connemara to Leenane to visit the Sheep and Wool Centre, at the Centre you will be joined by some local Irish ladies that love to knit to begin your knitting experience and enjoy lunch at the Bia Blas Café in the centre. Return through the bog & mountain landscape and visit the Leenane Sheep Farm before heading to Galway for overnight with evening at leisure to enjoy dinner on your own. Sun 24: Galway to Doolin Following breakfast journey along the shores of Galway Bay and the limestone region of the Burren. Stop at the Cliffs of Moher where you will have the chance to blow away the cobwebs with a brisk stroll along the cliffs and lots of photo opportunities. Later journey the short distance to Doolin where you will check-in to your bed and breakfast home for overnight. Some local knitting opportunities in the early evening before the chance to visit some of the local pubs for dinner and hear some great music on your own. Mon 25: Doolin to Dingle This morning visit with a local knitter before heading south along the Clare coastline to Lahinch and on south to take the ferry from Killimer to Tarbert in Co. Kerry and then on past Tralee and along the Dingle Peninsula to the harbour town of Dingle for overnight and dinner. Tue 26: Dingle Daytour Breakfast and a leisurely chance to explore the Dingle Peninsula with its magnificent sea and mountain scapesand most of the afternoon & evening at leisure to enjoy Dingle on your own. Wed 27: Dingle to Waterford via Cork Following breakfast this morning we depart Dingle and journey toward Cork City. In Little Island we will visit Hedgehog Fibres, an independent artisan fibre and dying studio. After time here journey toward Midleton where you can stop and enjoy a taste of Jameson and tour the distillery before continuing along the coastline through the fertile hills of Cork and Waterford to Ireland’s oldest city for overnight and dinner. Thur 28: Waterford Today we visit with a group of local knitters at the Copper Coast Geo Park for a knit a long with Bernadette & Niall McCann (owners of www.thewoolshop.ie - online wool store) and share yarns, stitches and patterns. This evening you will enjoy a unique opportunity to take a personal tour through the Medieval Museum with the curator including a wine reception and viewing of the Heavens’ Embroidered Cloths. Dating from the 1460s the Waterford cloth-of-gold vestments are made from Italian silk woven in Florence and embroidered in Bruges. These priceless vestments depict various scenes from the Bible and are the greatest treasures of late medieval Ireland. After your visit enjoy dinner at the Bishops Palace. Sat 30 Waterford to Dublin We leave Waterford after breakfast and travel to New Ross where you will be able to view the Ros Tapestry an exceptional community initiative detailing the events surrounding the founding of New Ross. 15 striking panels developed by 150 volunteers from the surrounding area. After the Tapestry visit the Dunbrody, a replica Famine Ship, showcasing how immigrants travelled to new worlds. Leaving New Ross journey through Wicklow, know as the Garden of Ireland to Dublin city for overnight. Evening at leisure for dinner and exploration of some great old pubs on your own. Sun 31: Free day in Dublin Breakfast at your hotel, followed by a complete free day to explore the sights of Dublin on your own. Mon JUNE 01: DUBLIN Today an exploration of the wool scene in Dublin including a visit with Liadain De Buitlear for a hands on class at the Constant Knitter.
