Instructions for making posters

A POSTER EXHIBITION AT THE FACULTY OF LAW DURING WEEK 42 During week 42, there will be a science exhibition in Calonia as a part of the theme year of research. We hope every researcher at the Faculty (including the doctoral students!) will prepare a poster of their current or recent research. It doesn’t matter if the research isn’t finished yet. CONTENT The poster should include the following information:  Name/names of the research and researchers  Background of the research  Research questions  Data and data collection method  Analysis method  Results OR preliminary findings OR on‐going work & schedule  Conclusions OR hypotheses Use the poster template you can find on the university website: https://intranet.utu.fi/en/unit/communications/logo_and_visual_image/Pages/Poster‐Templates.aspx Note that the poster has to include the unedited logo of the University of Turku (it has to follow the graphic standards). When designing the layout of your poster, keep in mind that it shouldn’t include too much text and it should be readable from afar. When creating the content of your poster, remember to let the text breath. Reserve enough time for designing you poster, and if possible, see in advance how your poster looks like on the wall. This way you can see for yourself whether your poster is readable from a couple of metres and will still have time to edit it if necessary. The poster size is about 85 cm (width) x 120 cm (height). Everyone gets to use only one poster stand. If you want to see the poster stands beforehand, you can find them in Calonia, between the main entrance and the coat rack. Finished posters should be sent for printing to oik‐[email protected] by Oct 5, 2015. The Faculty will pay the printing costs. GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS AND GUIDELINES FOR MAKING POSTERS The university’s poster template A poster template can be found in the university intranet (https://intranet.utu.fi/en/unit/communications/logo_and_visual_image/Pages/Poster‐Templates.aspx ), Oikeustieteellinen tiedekunta • Faculty of Law FI‐20014 Turun yliopisto, Finland • www.utu.fi Puhelin/Telephone +358 2 333 5502 Faksi/Fax +358 2 333 6570 utu.fi/law and it should be used. There are also useful instructions and tips for making the layout on the site. The vertical template suits best for our purposes. Using a large font is more than recommended (not smaller than 18–22). Pictures can be used. The titles should be bolded. If you’re making a coloured poster, make sure the colour contrast between the background and the text is big enough: choose a dark background for a light font and a light background for a dark font. Colour can be used to highlight important things and making distinctions. Avoid using restless backgrounds, because too much colour often looks messy. EXAMPLE POSTERS You can find examples of good posters here: http://www.iglrc.com/sessions/poster-session/ (links at the bottom of the page).
