Call for Proposals
Theme: “Sparking Student Engagement”
Do you have an effective technique for engaging your students in class discussion and
interaction? If so, we would like to hear from you! This year’s OATYC conference will be hosted
by Zane State College in Zanesville on Friday, October 9, 2015. The conference theme this year
focuses on student engagement and we are looking for innovative and original approaches, as
well as tried and true methods for increasing student involvement in and out of the classroom.
Please consider submitting a proposal—due April 15, 2015. For additional conference
information please see our website: www.oatyc.org.
Please consider sharing one of your strategies for engaging your students. Proposals should
reflect methods which foster student engagement and encourage involvement, such as:
 Student collaboration/interaction or student/peer teaching
 Project based learning strategies/use of multiple intelligences
 Emphasis on “real world” skills in classes and programs
 Use of games in the classroom
 The development and delivery of online courses
 The importance of student engagement
 Measuring student engagement
 Competency-based education
 Correlation between student engagement and student success
 Engaging students at tough moments (after a break, after poor performance)
 Ideas to grab the student’s attention and get them in the door on the first day
 Optimizing LMS course design to spark engagement
 The effectiveness of certain tools to increase engagement (social media, video, collaboration,
etc.)
