Contemporary Dance was one of the least visited art forms
on a National scale in Ireland in 2012 and 2013. From the
choreographer’s experience, it was clear that people from rural
areas in Ireland “dig” contemporary dance. As a contemporary
dance artist, Fiona feels it is her duty to encourage more exposure of contemporary dance and to allow people to experience
it in a relaxed and welcoming environment. The choreography
to be presented is a “work in progress” and inspired by movement investigation and development, and an exploration of emotional expression with a deep rooted sense of consideration for the
audience. The performance will include two dancers; Martin Hughes
and Fiona Keenan O’Brien. No booking necessary.

PATRICIA GURGEL-SEGRILLO
'DRAWING SERIES #2'
Mon 1st Sept – Fri 24th Oct 2014
MARY SCOTT, BRENDAN O’NEILL,
GRAINNE KAVANAGH AND NICKY HORE
'4 BRUSHSTROKES'
Mon 14th July – Thur 28th Aug 2014
‘4 Brushstrokes’ is a collection of work by a collaboration of local Co. Monaghan artists – Mary Scott, Brendan O’Neill, Grainne Kavanagh and Nicky
Hore. Last year the exhibition in ĺontas presented a collection showing
the diverse styles of the four artists, with their own distinctive portrayals
of our landscape, people and nature. Once again, there will be diversity
in styles on display and visitors to the ĺontas Gallery can enjoy the colour
and imagination that comes from the brushstrokes of these four local
artists. Mary Scott, from Monaghan Town, holds a degree in Creative Imaging. She has explored a range of styles from landscapes in oils to stylistic illustrations. Brendan O’Neill, also from Monaghan Town and mostly a
self-taught artist, has previously exhibited successfully in Galway. He continues with his individualistic oil paintings based on nature around him.
Grainne Kavanagh, from Smithborough, has a BA in Fine Art from DIT and
is an art teacher. She has an interest in various styles from portraiture to
sculpture. Nicky Hore, from Castleblayney, took up art later in life and has
an interest in different art styles including landscapes and portraits in oils
and acrylics.

Drawing Series #2 - Original pencil drawings created by visual artist Patricia Gurgel-Segrillo. A native of Brazil, but now based in Cork City, Patricia's interests lie in figurative explorations on cross-cultural identity,
womanhood, empowerment and femininity. The 'impossible beauty'
which dominates the hearts and minds of our consumer society is challenged in a whimsical, elfish, puckish way. The bizarre and the idiosyncratic, the beautiful and harmonious are present in every day life - Patricia
strives to uncover them in an attempt to provoke, disturb, inspire and
prompt reflection on our common humanity. Furthermore, Drawings Series #2 has been influenced by the afro-Brazilian orixas. They are deities
or divinities and are such a great part of Brazilian culture, specifically of
Rio de Janeiro, where the artist grew up. Her representations portray them
as ancient (or maybe futuristic?) heroes and sages, inhabitants of the
urban landscapes, full of magic as well as power and a profound sense of
self-worth, of dignity.
CATHERINA HEARNE
'ESSENCE & EXISTENCE'
Mon 27th Oct – Fri 19th Dec 2014
This exhibition of new paintings by Catherina Hearne, has been executed
over the past 2 years and presents a rich and intricate body of work
demonstrating the characteristics that are hallmarks of this artists ouvre
- attention to detail, complex layering of information, intricate building of
surfaces and rich colour relationships are all vital aspects of her work.
The paintings present a visual feast of colour, surface and form. For the
viewer their colour, vibrance and complexity resonate with the richness
and joy of life presenting a visual experience that is both instantly engaging and rewarding of careful inspection - they are above all intricate
works of positive affirmation that exist to be reflected upon and enjoyed.
Catherina has had many solo exhibitions in galleries nationwide and in the
UK. She has also participated in numerous group exhibitions internationally. Her work is in the collections of the Office of Public Works, Dundalk
UDC and Wexford Arts Centre as well as being represented in many private
collections.
