Cluster Excellence Denmark
Focus areas:
Supporting clusters and networks with their competence development,
professionalisation and internationalisation.
Offer a range of services to the cluster managements
Financed jointly by the Ministry (½) and the six regions (½)
Selected after EU-tender
Budget: 0,7 Mill. Euros a year
 Have the aim of creating growth and knowledge
based development for a group of companies.
 Have an active participation of triple helix actors –
companies, public institutions and knowledge
institutions.
 Have an formal organisation of the cluster (with at
least 1 FTE) that can supply services and activities for
the participants on a long term basis.
 Have a member base of minimum 20 dedicated
companies
 Have at least the bronze label.
Internationalisation
All Danish clusters have been benchmarked (NGP-project)
6 Danish clusters have achieved the gold label (first re-certfication) and 2 has the silver
label
Working closely with Enterprise Europe Network
Innovation Express program: Small grants for clusters to make cross border collaboration
with other clusters (50 – 80.000 Euros)
32 innovation express projects in 2011 – collaboration with 35 different clusters abroad
(6 Austrian clusters)

The Idea:
Create platforms for companies and research institutes to exchange
knowledge and enter into collaboration project
Objectives:
1. Increase innovation in SMEs
2. Improve R&D-collaboration
3. Create growth within leading Danish industries
The Innovation Network program
Total grants about 10 Mil. Euro per year
Bottom up approach
4 year grants - good possibilities of extensions
About 0.5-0.7 Mil. € per network per year
Grants are for:
• Operating costs for secretariat
• Matchmaking and knowledge sharing activities
• Development of collaboration and innovation projects
The 22 Innovation Networks:
Are nation-wide (not regional)
Open for all interested parties
Averagely 300 companies in each network and 9 knowledge
institutions – but a lot of variation
Focus on a technology or a business area
Some are ”traditional” clusters - others are cross-sectorial
Together they form an infrastructure
