Delegate suggestions
Thanks for the suggestions. Best ones summarised below in no particular order.
Enjoy…
1. “Speed dating” – communicate a case study in 3 minute bursts
2. www.positivenews.org.uk
3. Geography in the News as a noticeboard in classrooms which gets changed often
4. Closed questions for fact finding – encourages skim reading and scanning
5. Compass rose with 4 sections – who, name – key facts, effects, strategies
6. Have I got news for you – blank out headline words
7. Get a seriesof headlines to introduce an issue
8. Use of quotations from different people – to make more difficult give students
quotations and people and they have to work out who said what
9. Summarise a case study in diagrams only
10. Tracking hurricanes with Google Earth (e.g. Katrina)
11. Use GITN with Y7 to develop research skills. Tell the event in their own words –
not copy and paste internet chunks
12. Chop up news paper articles and spread on a page then task pupils with
reassembling the story/report
13. Pick a character (resident, scientist, rescue worker) affected by a recent event
and chart a happiness/opinion line for them before/during/after and event 
encourage to think long term
