Fashion Photography Toni Decker What is Fashion Photography? • A genre of photography that devotes to displaying items of clothing and fashion. • Four Components: • • • • The Clothes- Designers create trendy clothing that fashion photography sells by making it aesthetically pleasing. The Model- The model who is showing the clothing needs to be photogenic and “fits” the style of the clothing. The Photographer- The photographer needs to have a love for fashion, understanding of the fashion business, contacts with magazines, an eye for photography. The Photograph- The photo is what sells the clothing. It needs to be visually interesting and highlight the main item of clothing. The photos are usually displayed in magazines. Marc Jacobs The Clothes • Marc Jacobs designs all the Clothing for his fashion line. • He is famous for eyewear, Clothing, handbags and more. The Model • This is a Marc Jacobs Model • These models show off the clothing in photo shoots and on the runway. The Photographer -Brian Bowen Smith -He is a photographer for Marc Jacobs. -He was mentored by well Known fashion photographer Herb Ritts. -Love for fashion and Photography. Where Do We See Fashion Photography? • Editorial Spreads • Magazines • The “common person” can look through the photos and be attracted to a certain photograph and the clothing it is selling. • The person will be convinced to by the item.
