Set clocks back one hour Saturday night.
Painting Party Planned
& You're Invited!
Just in time for the holidays, we're going to spruce up the Fellowship Hall with a little
wall color, and work our way to the lower level of the Education Building. Many
rooms downstairs are in dire need of a fresh coat of paint, and we want to shine during the holidays. Some walls and rooms just need a good cleaning and organization,
too.
We have a plan of action, and we will have the paint and tape. We just need worker bees and your
painting tools. If you can't paint, don't despair! It will be great to have a set of hands to help prep/wash
walls, or move furniture back in place.
When:
Saturday, November 15th, 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.
Who:
Men, women, and youth
What to bring:
Paint rollers, brushes, roller paint pans, drop cloths, ladders, step
stools, rags, edgers... Basically whatever you might need to paint
walls! Non-painters should bring clean towels/rags, wash bucket or
whatever you need to clean drywall, baseboards, or stairs.
Hosts/Hostesses:
NUMC Trustees

Plans for the upcoming Advent season will be discussed
THANKSGIVING MEAL FOR 21ST CENTURY STUDENTS
On November 20th, our church will once again host a Thanksgiving
meal for the 21st Century students. This year they are from Mt. Yonah
Elementary School.
Your help is needed to prepare and serve the meal. Please contact
Cheryl Page (706-865-9772 [email protected]) or Jackie
Burkhalter at (706-865-5684 [email protected]) to answer your
questions or to volunteer. This is a great experience, so come join us!
OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD: The Outreach Ministries Team is counting on our church
family to participate in this special project that blesses so many children around the world. Please
pick up an envelope from the tables in front of the sanctuary or the fellowship hall and begin to fill
your shoebox. Our goal is to collect 100 shoeboxes so that we will receive 5 complimentary tickets
to Stone Mountain Park. These tickets will go to one of the Angel Tree families from our community. You can start bringing in your filled shoeboxes and place them on the altar rail on Sundays or any
other day of the week. The deadline for collection is Sunday, November 9th. Thank you for sharing
the love of Jesus. If you have any questions, please contact Giselle Morales at (706) 947-1517.
THANKSGIVING SPECIAL GIFT: Once again, we are blessed with the opportunity to provide
needy families in our community with a holiday meal. We will be purchasing grocery gift certificates for ten families who are in desperate need. These families are identified by the White County Family Connection and Habersham County
Social Services. Our Outreach Team delivers these in person to their
homes, along with other gift items. A special offering will be taken on
Sunday, November 16th. Please write "Thanksgiving Gift" on the memo
line of your check and place it in the offering plate, or drop it off at the
church office at your convenience. Thank you for your loving generosity
this holiday season.
Robert Banks, a new member of our church, is a Confederate War fount of
knowledge. Among other things, he wants to help us clean and upright the
gravestones of our confederate veterans. He has done this kind of work in the
Atlanta Oakland Cemetery. He had already located 9 gravestones by the time
we got together with Gerry Fordham and Jackie Burkhalter.
This project ties in with the cemetery committee’s plans to identify and place
some kind of commemorative marker on each gravestone of all the veterans we can identify. Another
of the tasks he has done in other cemeteries is planning and placing commemorative markers. He didn’t bat an eyelash when we told him that our research indicated that there are actually 22 confederate
graves. He just said and repeated as we explored the size of the job, that one works one job and one
day at a time.
We want to be sure that we proceed with this project in a way that will be comfortable for the descendants and the community interested in this historic cemetery. If you are one of the descendants, please
let us know about things you feel should be done or should not be done.
Another thing very important to Robert is making reproductions of the flags of the Confederate Army
Divisions. He has volunteered to do a program next semester for EAGLE showing some of his work.
(I have been at one of the programs he did at the White County Historical Society. He does beautiful
work with silk and wool fabric as authentic as he can locate.) We hope many of you can be at the program.
Ann Banke
Our Fall Outing to Highlands was a success. We started the
day with a beautiful drive to the mountains, arrived at the Bistro
on Main, and were served a delicious lunch. Following lunch
some of us visited the Bascom Art Gallery. Others shopped in
the delightful shops and ended the day at the Edward Inn for
refreshments. What a fun day!
M&M's will have a workday Monday, November 3rd at 10:00 a.m. Please bring any travel
size toiletries (soap, shampoo, conditioner and lotions). We will organize them for the December visit to the Prison.
Our November Planning Meeting will be Wednesday, November 19th at 10:00 a.m. Gerry
Fordham will be hosting our meeting at 259 Lumsden Lane (the house right before Mary Jim
Luce's house). We will have brunch followed by our meeting. Please join us for fellowship. Invite someone to come with you! We had a group of around 20 ladies in September.
Correction: The prison visit will be Friday, December 5th. Those that want to participate
need to get their paperwork filled out. Contact Dean Pauls for details.
Save this date: Wednesday, December 10th for the M&M Christmas Party. Dean Pauls will
be hosting it in her home. More details to come......
