1|Page The Communicant Our mission is to explore and celebrate God’s infinite grace, acceptance and love 224 N. East Avenue Fayetteville, AR 72701 479.442.7373 Our Parish Newsletter stpaulsfay.org November, 2014 Loving to Give a brief message from Lowell The central message from this church is always "Love" - "Love God, and love your neighbor as yourself." When you pledge and give to St. Paul's, you are acting in love. Love God - Giving to St. Paul's can be an expression of thanks to God the creator for giving us this wonderful earth and for the gift of life. Giving can be a way to respond to the love of Jesus who showed us how to live generously and authentically. Giving fills us with the Holy Spirit, the giver of all good things. Love your Neighbor - When you give to St. Paul's you enable our message and work of love for all. We express our love in worship, music, fellowship and empowering spiritual growth for children, youth and adults. We express our love in outreach, care and hospitality for the poor, the marginalized, those who are ill, and those in prison. Love Yourself - Nurturing your generosity opens your heart and spirit and breaks some of our bondage to our tendencies toward self-centeredness. Giving to St. Paul's comes back as a gift to you as you enjoy the benefits of being part of a nurturing, serving community of love. Pledge generously as a gift of love to God, to neighbor, and to self. To pledge online, go to http://stpaulsfay.org/pledge.html Remember! Time Change This Sunday Daylight Savings Time will end at 2:00 AM on Sunday, November 2nd. The old expression goes, "spring forward, fall back." Don’t forget to set your clocks back one hour before bed Saturday night. And enjoy that extra hour of sleep! Schedule Your Pictures Today! St Paul's is creating a hard-copy pictorial directory Go to http://tinyurl.com/stpaulspics to schedule your photo shoot for our new directory. The session will take about 20 minutes with a Lifetouch photographer. You'll receive a free photo directory and free 8" X 11" photograph. You may order additional photography packages at the time of your photo shoot, if you so desire. For those electing not to have their picture taken, copies of the directory will be available for a purchase of five dollars on the photographer’s website. Not only is this a great opportunity for a family portrait, it’s super helpful to have a pictorial directory. And there’s still time to schedule your shoot! Remaining dates are: Nov 1 (Sat.): 10:00am - 4:50pm Nov 11 - Nov 14 (Tues. – Fri.): 2:30pm - 8:50pm Nov 15 (Sat.): 10:00am - 6:00pm Questions? Matt and Pene Musial will be available in the Welcome Center after each of the Sunday services through Nov 16, or contact them: Matt (719.331.8847) or Pene (719.331.8331). You may also call the office at St. Paul’s for assistance. 2|Page November Headlines Connecting Your Giving with your Receiving We encourage all of St. Paul's members and friends to consider giving a known percentage of your income to St. Paul's as an expression of your thanks for everything you are and everything you receive. (It's an old tradition, dating back to agrarian days when farmers gave a portion of the harvest.) Giving 5% of one's income has become something of a norm at St. Paul's. The math is easy -- pledge $1 a week for every $1,000 of income. A few households offer a traditional tithe (10%). Most people give to St. Paul's and give to other good causes. If you've never calculated your proportionate giving, take a look at the table below. Sunday Bible Study: The Epistle to the Romans Starts November 2 St. Paul's letter to the Romans has been called his "masterpiece" and his "most important theological legacy. In his Commentary on Romans, Martin Luther said, This Epistle [Romans] is really the chief part of the New Testament and the very purest Gospel, and is worthy not only that every Christian should know it word for word, by heart, but occupy himself with it every day, as the daily bread of the soul. But the Epistle to the Romans is not easy reading. Jesuit scholar Joseph Fitzmyer says the letter "overwhelms the reader by the density and sublimity of the topic with which it deals, the gospel of the justification and salvation of Jew and Greek alike by the grace of God through faith in Jesus Christ, revealing the uprightness and love of God." 6|Page Join us starting Sunday, November 2, as Lowell begins a study of Paul's greatest writing.
