Then they must not only change their worldly relationships, but enter into a one on one personal relationship with Jesus which changes us.” “ Ministry Focus Jail Ministries Men’s Jail Ministry Every Friday, Jerry Bradford and Tommy Jones have the opportunity to share the Good News with two groups of men at the Jefferson County Jail. The 20-35 men are led in Bible Study, prayer, and counseling. FBC provides this ministry with materials such as the Free On The Inside Bible. This Bible is an easy to read Bible and designed specifically for inmates. For many of the inmates, this is the first Bible that they have ever read and even owned. All inmates that attend the Bible Study are provided with a copy of “What On Earth Am I Here For” by Rick Warren and a copy of “Daily Bread” devotional. Women’s Jail Ministry Every Thursday evening, Darla Lewis and Carwin Dunn have the opportunity to make an impact with about 35 women at the Jefferson County Jail. These ladies have been spending week in and week out investing in the lives of these inmates and sharing the hope that is found in Christ with them. The Women’s Jail ministry recently did a series watching the Jesus film and Magdalena with the women. Through this video series, the women were able to see a visual example of Jesus and the miracles He performed and they were able to hear the message of hope and salvation that He came to share. Darla and Carwin spend much of the time that they are at the jail counseling, mentoring, and reading scripture with these women. FBC is able to provide the women with Bibles, devotional material, and Bible studies In the Spring of 2014, there was a baptism held at the jail for the Women’s Jail ministry. At this baptism night, there were over 20 women who decided to follow Christ’s example through baptism. Those women were then discipled by the Women’s Jail Ministry. Please be in prayer for these two ministries as they seek to reach and minister to the inmates at Jefferson County Jail. On October 25, 2014 Jerry had the privilege of baptizing 13 men who have recently made a profession of faith. The baptistery used was donated by a Christian manufacturer of portable baptisms named Bill Wadell. Inmates who have accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior receive a full explanation of Christian baptism, why go through baptism, along with who qualifies and who does not for baptism. All inmates that go through baptism receive a certificate of Baptism from First Baptist Church. “In 15 years of working in minimum security facilities, the common thread among inmates is their desire for change,” Jerry says. “The only way these men will see In 15 years of working in minimum security facilities, the common thread among inmates is their desire for change ” - Jerry Bradford Special Guest Speaker - Kojo Abakah On Wednesday November 5th at 6:30 pm, First Baptist Dandridge Mission Groups will have a wonderful Guest Speaker, Mr. Kojo Abakah. Kojo was raised in Ghana, Africa and was a recipient of a Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child Shoebox. Kojo is now a student at Tusculum College and living in East Tennessee. Kojo will join FBC on this Wednesday night to share his testimony of growing up in Africa and the impact that receiving an Operaiton Christmas Child Shoebox made on his life. Operation Christmas Child provides shoe boxes of gifts to children all across the world and is a ministry of Samaritan’s Purse. Samaritan’s Purse is a nondenominational evangelical Christian organization providing spiritual and physical aid to hurting people around the world. Since 1970, Samaritan’s Purse has helped meet the needs of people who are victims of war, poverty, natural disasters, disease, and famine with the purpose of sharing God’s love through His Son, Jesus Christ. Operation Christmas Child provides a small shoebox that can have a big impact. What goes into the box is fun, but what comes out of it is eternal. On November 5, all mission groups including WMU, Baptist Men, RA’s, GA’s, and Mission Friends will meet in the Sanctuary at 6:30 pm to hear this powerful testimony of a life changed by a simple shoebox.
