Nebraska vs. Purdue
October 30 – November 2, 2014
It’s the annual Las Vegas Nebraskans migration to Lincoln for a fun-filled weekend when Nebraska plays Purdue on
Saturday, Nov. 1 and to see the Huskers play a Big Ten opponent in the recently remodeled and enlarged Memorial
Stadium. Nebraska football fever will be in high gear this fall with goals of the Big Ten title and a national ranking.
However, to go on the trip, you must act now as only a limited number of reservations are available.
Our group will be flying to Nebraska via Las Vegas & Omaha. On Thursday, Oct. 30, our group will depart Las
Vegas at 9:00am on Southwest Airlines and non-stop arrival in Omaha at 1:40pm. Transportation to/from Omaha
and Lincoln will be by automobile. Many of our travelers have made a commitment to rent cars. However, you are
not required to rent a car as the necessary arrangements will be made to get everyone to the Lincoln hotel from the
Omaha airport. Lodging for the three nights will be at the Microtel, a hotel located off of north 27th street.
Experience all the thrills of being in Lincoln for a football weekend and to also watch the Huskers play in Memorial
Stadium. To add to this excitement, on Friday morning, Oct. 31, our group will board a chartered motorcoach, headed
for Memorial Stadium and an exclusive guided tour of the remodeled and renovated football complex plus the Tom &
Nancy Osborne Athletic Complex, the Hawks Championship Center and the expanded East Stadium. The tour also
includes the playing field, press box and, possibly, the athletic research center with the East Stadium. Our stadium
sojourn will take about 90 minutes.
After our stop at the stadium, we'll reboard the motorcoach and drive to the Strategic Air and Space Museum, located
off of Interstate 80, near Ashland, NE. The museum focuses on aircraft and nuclear missiles of the U.S. Air Force.
The objective of the museum is to preserve and display historic aircraft, missile, and space vehicles and provide
educational resources. It is regarded as having one of the top collections of strategic aircraft and was recently listed in
the Omaha World-Herald as the No. 1 tourist attraction in eastern Nebraska. The is a guided tour, all indoors in the
cavernous hangers and affords the opportunity to trace the history of the air-heroes of WWII, Korea and Vietnam. Our
club visited this facility over 10 years ago, however, there have been many new additions to the museum.
Following a stop for lunch at Parker’s Smoke House, we’ll visit the Cellular 426 winery, located on the outskirts of
Ashland. Cellar 426, one of Nebraska’s newest wineries, sits high on the hill with 360 degrees of breathtaking views
that can be experienced while tasting Nebraska-crafted wines in a beautiful tasting room designed with the comfort
and warmth of a modern lodge. Following the winery we’ll return our hotel, with an anticipated arrival of 3:30pm.
The Saturday, Nov. 1 schedule will revolve around the game. The kickoff time has yet to be announced. Whatever the
time of the game, our chartered motorcoach will take us to the downtown area some three hours before the kickoff.
This will permit you time to join your friends or family in having a bite to eat at the various tailgating sites or to stop
by some of the popular pre-game establishments in downtown Lincoln. About an hour and a half following the game,
the bus will take us back to the hotel.
The evenings are “open” nights with no planned events. As we’ll have a large number of rental cars, sharing evening
transportation to some of the popular "nite-spots" or "pep-rallies" shouldn't be a problem.
On Sunday, Nov. 2, be checked out of the hotel by 11:00am. We’ll need to get an accounting for our travelers prior
to the jaunt to Omaha. Everyone needs to be at Eppley Airport by 12:15pm. The return non-stop flight departs
Omaha at 1:45pm and arrives in Las Vegas at 2:45pm. Remember, on Southwest Airlines, two bags Fly Free.
The price of the excursion starts at only $499.00 per person however; the actual cost is based on your lodging
preference (various prices are shown on the following page.) If you enjoy traveling with Big Red football fans
and would like to see the Huskers play in Lincoln, this is an outstanding trip. And, it's priced for everyone !
