Gallery 140 is open with the Studio Tour Preview; samples of nearly every artist from the
studio tour are exhibited. It is an exciting show—especially when you think of it as just the
very tip of the iceberg. We will be open from 1:00 – 4:00 PM Tuesday through Thursday,
and from 1-7 PM on Fridays and Saturdays. We will also be open by appointment.

THE 2014 Historic Las Vegas Art Studio
Tour Preview
is OPEN at Gallery 140!
Big things are happening in “Lil’ Las Vegas, NM. The 2014 Historic Las Vegas Art Studio Tour,
sponsored by the Las Vegas Arts Council, marks the return of the art walk in Las Vegas,
highlighting the artistic talent of over 70 Northeastern New Mexico artists and artisans.
The exciting two-day tour will feature over 22 stops featuring a wide range of works (painting,
sculpture, ceramics, jewelry, fiber, photography, traditional Spanish art, street art, mixed media
and more).
Las Vegas, New Mexico has been a popular stop since the 1800s. Historically a railroad town it
has played host to a vast array of historical characters including Teddy Roosevelt and his Rough
Riders. Now it features a restored Amtrak station, over 900 homes and buildings on the Register
of Historical Places such as the once elegant Harvey House Hotel La Castañeda, now under
renovation. The diverse architecture and beautiful settings have made Las Vegas a mecca for the
film and television industry for the last 100 years, including Tom Mix, Red Dawn, Easy Rider, All
the Pretty Horses, Paul, Longmire and Academy Award-winning No Country for Old Men. Modern
day visitors to the town can now enjoy authentic New Mexico cuisine at numerous locally owned
restaurants, cafes, and an award winning microbrewery.
The Plaza Hotel, built in 1882, overlooks the beautiful Plaza Park connected to Bridge Street,
which was just named one of the top 10 streets in America.

The SMOOTH RIDERS will be performing
in the Breezeway!
The studio tour will kick off on the evening of Friday,
October 24th with a tour preview show and opening
reception at the LVAC Gallery 140 located at 140
Bridge Street from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m and will feature the Smooth Riders Jazz Quartet. On
Saturday, October 25th and Sunday, October 26th from 10 am to 5 pm participants may visit
private studios and the La Gente and Quilt show at Bell Gallery located on the New Mexico
Highlands University campus. The Ray Drew gallery will be featuring
the original etchings of William Hogarth (1697-1764) from 1pm to
5pm on Saturday and Sunday.Live theater fans can enjoy a free play
at the City of Las Vegas Rough Riders Museum and Memorial at 727
Grand Avenue. On Saturday, October 25th at 4:00 p.m. the Nat Gold
Players will present “Footlights in the Foothills” a play with music
about the history of community theater in Las Vegas based on the
book by Edwina Romero.
On Friday 24th and Saturday the 25th the
Las Vegas Community Theater Collective
and Wize Latina Productions will be gracing
the stage of the historic Serf Theatre to
present the award winning play “The Three Señorita Pigletitas Y el
Diablo The Wolf” an original play by Patricia Crespín. Doors open at
5pm; performance at 6pm; hors d’oeuvres, bottle service, and a cash
bar. It’s is a family show appropriate for kids and entertaining for
adults too. Dancing and music will go on throughout the evening until
9pm with a live band. The SERF Theater Hall is located at 707 Douglas
Avenue. Admission is $20 a seat or $100 for a table of six. Tickets
available at the Las Vegas Arts Council, Tome on the Range, and
through The Las Vegas Community Theater Collective. Please call 505426-6889 for more information.
Las Vegas, New Mexico is located 70 miles east of Santa Fe; just a 50 minute drive. Take 125
north to exit 345. Turn left toward town and then right onto Grand Ave and then left onto
National Avenue. National Ave becomes Bridge Street. Gallery 140 is located to the right on
Bridge St. next door to the Bridge Street Breezeway. Start the tour at 140 Bridge to pick up
brochures and maps. Spend the weekend. Stay over night. See all the art and some live theatre.
Enjoy a good meal and sample our great beer!

FRIENDS OF LAS VEGAS NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE
Interpretive programs are repeated at 12:00 noon and 1:30 PM every Sunday:
Sunday, November 2, Santa Fe Raptor Center Live Raptor Presentation, Volunteers care for
injured birds in order to release them back into their natural habitat. Those raptors, which
cannot be released due to extensive injuries, are given a loving home and used in educational
programs such as this. Bring the Kids!

Santa Fe pianist Ron Grinage presents a recital entitled “Piano Works by Russian Masters” to benefit the Santa
Fe Community Orchestra on Saturday, November 1, 2014 at 4 pm at St. John’s United Methodist Church. The
program will include selections from Rachmaninov’s Preludes Opus 32; Tchaikovsky’s The Seasons; Prelude
and Fugue Op. 87, No. 24 in D minor by Shostakovich; and works by Prokofiev and Scriabin. Admission is
free and all donations benefit the Santa Fe Community Orchestra. For more information, visit sfco.org or call

Mr. Grinage is a popular recitalist, accompanist, teacher, and lecturer. He joined the music staff of the Santa Fe
Opera in 1987 and is currently Electronic Libretto Operator for the summer opera productions. Additionally he
has performed with the Santa Fe Symphony and Chorus, the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra and
Chorus, the Santa Fe Pro Musica, the Santa Fe Desert Chorale, the Berkshire Choral Festival in Santa Fe, Coro
de Camara, the New Mexico Pro Coro, and Taos Soundscapes. During his 26 year tenure as Music Director at
La Casa Sena’s popular Cantina, Ron prepared and presented more than 45 Broadway shows. A long-time
lecturer for the Elderhostel and Road Scholar programs, Ron is a graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Music
and a past President of the NM Music Teachers Association.

BACH FEST 2014!
This fall the NMHU Music Department will have a Bach Festival. The event will
take place on Sunday, November 16th at Ilfeld Auditorium. Both Concert Choir and Madrigal Choir will
perform with members of the Santa Fe Orchestra and the Santa Fe Bach Choir. Linda King will also play a
piano concerto.
Interested community members who would like to participate with their own Bach pieces (either
instrumental or singing) should e-mail [email protected] or Andre at [email protected] if
interested in participating either singularly or with one of the choirs. Auditions TBA. The choir music

The Las Vegas Arts Council will email invitations to participate in the December Small Works Exhibit in
the next week or so. Open to all paid members, this is a fun, eclectic, Christmas-y show of fine arts and
crafts with NO ENTRY FEE. Please forward the invitations to artists and craftspeople you know would like
to participate.
