A lot has changed in 25 years! Back in the ‘roaring’ days of bigger is better (1998 -2007) material suppliers believed that proving their commitment to you meant that The we would always be ready on no notice to make a delivery. We use market research and other data to identify opportunities, set our game plan and then go to work developing solutions. Over the past few years the programs we’ve launched have centered around providing excellent customer service driven by OTIF and sourcing superior lumber quality. Take a look below to review these initiatives and learn more about our latest project, System Suggested Order Program built to enhance our inventory management/ordering and increase our OTIF % in getting you the products you want, when you want them: OTIF: On-time & in-full. The power of planning ahead, tracking data and delivering the products you want, when you want them. Logistics Managers & Inventory Managers. We’ve increased responsibility and clarity in employee roles overseeing logistics and inventory and their responsibilities to manage the core systems driving results. Every employee has an incentive plan built around key metrics centered around builder priorities. Tracking Data. OTIF, Journey Value and Delivery Ticket Value are just a few of the metrics we look at to ensure we’re providing the service to your job site you deserve. We measure the capacity of our fleet, drivers and hours in the day; when we plan well and leave with full trucks, we gain capacity to better serve you—fewer jobsite interruptions, paperwork and environmental impact. Our goal is to work smarter, not harder and collaborate to become a more efficient team, TOGETHER! Driver Promise. Our drivers promise to call ahead to the jobsite before arriving with a delivery to coordinate with your on-site crew about arrival time and what products will be arriving, giving your crews time to prepare. Special Order Notification System. The moment a customer’s special order arrives to one of our lumberyards it triggers a notification to be sent out. No need to call and check on specific products and their ETA’s - whether your preference is a phone call or email, we’ll let you know the moment your special order product arrives! Advanced Shipment Notification System. This system is designed to send an email communication to let you know when an order is scheduled to be delivered to your jobsite. Our sellers work to get the correct contact name, cell phone and email address for the right person on each phase of the job. Then, our logistics managers promise to send these emails within 30 minutes of your delivery being scheduled in our system. The Value of ADVANCED SHIPMENT NOTIFICATION. One of our logistics managers recently shared a story from a customer about our ANS system: “Last night I received a call from one of our builders that had received an ASN on a delivery that we were picking up at Maine Wood Treaters today and delivering. He wanted to let me know he wasn’t ready for it and I told him we would bring it back to the store for now until he did need it. Also through this conservation we set up another delivery for today so he can keep his crew busy. This is an example of what a great tool this is and how it benefits both our customers and Hancock Lumber!” Lumber Quality: Sourcing & protecting the highest quality lumber for Maine’s best builders and remodelers. Our product management team leverages their industry experience and buying power to create partnerships with key mills and other vendors to supply you with quality products at competitive prices. We demand the best from our vendors and are selective in choosing partners. Hancock’s premium grade studs are the highest quality found in Maine and we continuously invest in our lumberyard to provide undercover solutions to house product – whether new lumber trees or warehouse spaces, we aim to cover all product to ensure it gets to the jobsite in the same condition we received it. 2 NEW! SYSTEM SUGGESTED ORDER PROGRAM With the goal of creating a world-class inventory management system, we designed this program to create a suggested order form for inventory managers to use. Based on a set of key criteria, min/max levels are dynamically generated monthly based on velocity, seasonality, current sales and last year’s sales by branch to automatically generate a report to inventory managers with their branch’s recommended orders for the week. This ties directly into one of our top OTIF failure codes – vendor backorders and lack of stock inventory. With more accurate data and reporting, we’re able to calculate what products and quantities to have on-hand and stay ahead of vendor/stock backorders. Our employees are trained to use this data timely and wisely by printing the report, manage by walking around and face, front cull and count product! NEW! INVENTORY YARD MAPPING In conjunction with the SSO program and creating a worldclass inventory system that reduces out of stock issues, we also just completed our test yard for inventory mapping in Yarmouth. We created an inventory mapping system that codes all spaces where product is stored that will tie to our computer system. This creates a system that everyone can understand, no matter what branch you work at and less confusion about product placement and back stock.
