Book of Life. The Feast of All Saints. Yesterday, Saturday November 1st, was the Feast of All Saints. It was a
holy day but not one of obligation. This feast was initially celebrated to honor the early Church Martyrs. It recalled
the many men and women who offered their lives to Christ in martyrdom in the early life of the Church. Today we
honor all those, who throughout the Church’s history, have offered their lives to Christ either in the

CALLING ALL VETERANS
and those now serving
As the time nears for St. Michael’s Annual Veterans’ Day Mass, to thank our military for their service
to the country, the Worship Commission would like to invite
all interested parish veterans, reservists, and active military to
participate in this year’s celebration. The Mass will be held on
Sunday, November 9th at 10:00 am, with a brief flag-raising
ceremony at 9:45 am. We would like to have parishioners,
who are veterans, assist in the ceremony in various ways, i.e.
to participate in the flag raising, to present the offertory gifts,
offer the prayers of the faithful etc. A reception will follow the
Mass in the cafeteria.
If you are willing to participate in any way in this special celebration, please contact Jan Jackson 734-425-0632.
Deacon Brandon Oman, our weekend deacon
will be presenting

Thanksgiving Food Drive
The Outreach committee will be having a Thanksgiving food drive. We will use the items to make Thanksgiving baskets for St. Michael’s families, Loaves and
Fishes and St. Christine’s. The collection will run for
two weekends (November 7 and 8 & 14 and 15).
Thanksgiving is a time to remember our neighbors and
be thankful for all our blessings. Please place all
items in the vestibule of the church.
Helping Hands Needed
The Outreach committee needs your help in sorting
and preparing the Thanksgiving baskets. This is a
great opportunity for service hours for individuals
and families. The helpers must be at least 10 years
old and any student/child younger than 13 years old must be
accompanied by an adult. The tentative dates are November
10th from 3:00-5:00, November 13th from 9:00am-11:00am,
November 16th from 1:00-3:00 and Tuesday 9:00am-11:00am.
If you are able to help, please contact Tricia Donehue at (734)
632-0230/ [email protected]. Thank you, for being so
generous with your time to help those in need.
Right to Life is sponsoring a Christmas card sale the weekends
of November 9, 16 and 23 after the Masses. More information
will be available in the upcoming weeks.

act of martyrdom or in their service to Christ in the life of the Church.
The Feast of All Souls. Today, Sunday November 2nd the Universal Church commemorates All Souls Day. On
this day we remember all who have died, and in a special way our loved ones. It is a time to pray for God’s mercy
for all who have died and to express our gratitude to God for our loved ones.
The Book of Life. Again this year the Book of Life will be in the vestibule of the church. Please enter the names of
your deceased loved one’s as we will pray for them throughout the entire month of November.
Priesthood Sunday. I want to thank those responsible for the reception for Priesthood Sunday. In addition I want
to thank those who attended the reception and those who offered supportive words after the Masses. Fr. Kishore
and I do appreciate your kind support.

Understanding the
Lay Vocation
Have you ever wondered about the
specific call and role of the Laity, or
thought you ought to deepen your understanding of the Lay Vocation? Do
you want to learn a few practical ways
in which you can share your own personal walk with the Lord with others?
Come and join Deacon Brandon on
Tuesday Nov. 18 at 7:00 pm in the
Convent Basement as he presents on
the Lay Vocation. He will be sharing
ways in which the Lay Vocation shaped
his own call to the priesthood as well
as offering some practical tips on how
to share your story with others.

One Vocation Leads to Another…
“Let us not forget that Christian marriage is a
vocation to holiness in the full sense of the word,
and that the example of holy parents is the first
condition favorable for the flowering of priestly
and religious vocations.”
Pope Benedict XVI
Vocations are born in prayer and prayer, and
only in prayer can they persevere and bear
fruit….”
Pope Francis
The office of Priestly Vocations offers programs and events throughout the year aimed to promote priestly vocations within the Archdiocese of Detroit. These programs strive to increase awareness and help men gain a better
understanding of the priesthood, seminary life and discernment. We encourage anyone interested in learning
more to attend one of our many programs.

St. Michael Christian Service
The St. Michael’s Seniors group welcomes members, single or couples, who are 55 years and up. Our
mission is to provide for the spiritual, social and educational needs of the members and to give service to
the broader community when possible.
Due to circumstances beyond his control, Det. Daniel McCulley was unable to attend the October 1st
meeting. At our next meeting on November 5 at noon, Det. Daniel McCulley of the Livonia Police Department will speak on the “Safety of Seniors”.
Our meetings are being held at St. Rafka’s Church Hall (on Lyndon between Farmington and Merriman roads) on the first and third Wednesdays of the month at noon. The hall has no steps and is very
accessible to all. Each member takes a turn bringing dessert. Every year during the holidays, the seniors bring food items to pack baskets for the needy of the parish.
Our treasurer, Rita Virant will collect dues of $10.00 per year. Dolores Kowalski arranges trips during
the year and gives a presentation at each meeting of the trips available . We welcome all seniors to the
group and look forward to meeting with you. If interested, please call Helen Burger at 734-522-6449.
On Tuesday, November 18, 2014, the senior will have a narrated tour of the National Shrine of the
Little Flower Catholic Church. Afterward, we will have lunch at Loccino Italian Grill. The next stop
will be to the Fieldstone Winery in Rochester. The final stop will be to the Nino Salvaggio Market located in Troy. This is an oversized, international market. For this trip, we will depart at 9:00 a.m. and return at 4:30 p.m. The price for the trip is $62.00.
All trips depart from St. Rafka parish, which is located on Lyndon Ave., east of Farmington Rd. For
more information, please call Dolores Kowalski at 734-462-5970.
