O Purest MARY, O Sweetest MARY! Let your name henceforth be ever on my lips. Delay not, O Blessed Lady, to succor me whenever I call on you, for, in all my temptations, in all my needs, I shall never cease to call on you, ever repeating your sacred name, Mary, Mary! Oh, what consolation, what sweetness, what confidence, what emotion, fills my soul when I utter your sacred name, or even only think of you! I thank the Lord for having given you, for my good, so sweet, so powerful, so lovely a name. But I will not be content with merely uttering your name. Let my love for you prompt me ever to hail you, Mother of Perpetual Help! This Week’s Gospel: John 6:37–40 Christians both living and dead belong to the Communion of Saints. The Feast of All Souls helps us remember and pray for those who have died and gone on to our common Christian future—life forever with God. The Gospel for this special day comes as a promise. All who believe in Jesus will have eternal life, and Jesus will raise them up on the last day. It is sometimes difficult for families to talk about death because the loss of a loved one feels so very, very sad. All Souls’ Day is a reminder that all sadness will go away when we experience the resurrection that Jesus has promised. Exploring the Gospel Message Seeds (Preschool): Although this Sunday is the celebration of All Souls’ Day, your child learned about the some of the saints who are your brothers and sisters who followed Jesus and who show all how to live as good Christians. Ask your child to show you the cover of this week’s lesson and to share with the family what they learned about the saints pictured there. Read the booklet your child made in class. Promise (Grades K–1): Your child learned that All Souls’ is the feast day that reminds us to remember family and friends who have died. Your child made a paper candle in class. Light a real candle and talk about people who have died and are waiting for Jesus’ promise that all will rise again. (Be sure to ask your child to share the story of “Brother Martin and the Mice.”) Good News (Grades 2–3): In class this week, your child got a glimpse of what our faith in the resurrection means. They learned about praying for those who have died. Talk about Día de los Muertos. How do these traditions honor those who have died? How does your family remember your relatives who have died? This is also a good week to share stories of the saints. Ask your child to share the saints he or she learned about in class. Venture (Grades 4–6): This week your child learned more about the Communion of Saints by discovering why we celebrate feasts honoring those who have died and honoring those who have been singled out as canonized saints. OLPH School Connection The families of our OLPH 8th grade students ar e back today! These devoted families took it upon themselves to get together and organize today’s Bake Sale / Garage Sale! The 8th gr ade class wanted to “leave their mark” on OLPH, and decided the best way to do that was to raise money to Invite your child to tell the story “May Your Memory Live On” with the family. Talk about ways your family can remember relatives who have died. Make sure one of those ways is remembering them in your prayers. Visions (Grades 7–8): This week your youngster’s class explored many aspects of the Communion of Saints. The class also learned to appreciate Jesus’ promise of eternal life. Talk together about Jesus’ promise. What does this promise mean to your family? How can your family demonstrate your faith in life everlasting? Make a list of people you know whose life or work shows what it means to belong to the Communion of Saints. Pray Together When you complete your conversation about the week’s Gospel lesson, pay a visit to the local Catholic cemetery. The Feast of All Souls is an ideal day to visit the graves of your family members and say a little prayer for each one. Then walk through the cemetery. Look for signs that demonstrate faith in Jesus’ promise of eternal life. Before leaving, join hands and recite the Our Father. Then say together, “Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace. Amen.” Amén”. replace the broken basketball hoops on our school yard. Our students really have that OLPH pride and understand what it means to give. In addition to the efforts of our 8th grade families, several parents and staff are gathering at the school today from 12:00-4:00 to help paint the upper floor hallway doors and baseboards. I feel so honored to work amongst people with such generous spirits. Go SAINTS! Todos los Fieles Difuntos 2 de noviembre de 2014 Si hemos muerto con Cristo, estamos seguros de que también viviremos con él. — Romanos 6:8 LECTURAS DE LA SEMANA Lunes: Fil 2:1-4; Sal 131 (130):1bcde-3; Lc 14:12-14 Martes: Fil 2:5-11; Sal 22 (21):26b-32; Lc 14:15-24 Miércoles: Fil 2:12-18; Sal 27 (26):1, 4, 13-14; Lc 14:25-33 Jueves: Fil 3:3-8a; Sal 105 (104):2-7; Lc 15:1-10 Viernes: Fil 3:17 — 4:1; Sal 122 (121):1-5; Lc 16:1-8 Sábado: Fil 4:10-19; Sal 112 (111):1b-2, 5-6, 8a, 9; Lc 16:9-15 READINGS FOR THE WEEK Monday: Phil 2:1-4; Ps 131:1bcde-3; Lk 14:12-14 Tuesday: Phil 2:5-11; Ps 22:26b-32; Lk 14:15-24 Wednesday: Phil 2:12-18; Ps 27:1, 4, 13-14; Lk 14:25-33 Thursday: Phil 3:3-8a; Ps 105:2-7; Lk 15:1-10 Friday: Phil 3:17 — 4:1; Ps 122:1-5; Lk 16:1-8 Saturday: Phil 4:10-19; Ps 112:1b-2, 5-6, 8a, 9; Lk 16:9-15 Sunday: Ez 47:1-2, 8-9, 12; Ps 46:2-3, 5-6, 8-9; 1 Cor 3:9c-11, 16-17; Jn 2:13-22 SAINTS AND SPECIAL OBSERVANCES Sunday: The Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed (All Souls’ Day); Daylight Saving Time ends; National Vocation Awareness Week Monday: Thirty-first Week in Ordinary Time; St. Martin de Porres Tuesday: St. Charles Borromeo; Election Day Friday: First Friday Saturday: Blessed Virgin Mary Living God’s Word It is difficult to love, especially when we have been hurt by others.
