What is CAP?
The Creative Arts Programme (CAP)
2015 is organised by
Gifted
Education Branch, Ministry
of Education and the
University Scholars
Programme, NUS.

CAP Seminar
The Creative Arts Seminar offers an
annual literary adventure for selected
students. It consists of the following:
 writing workshops;
 plenary sessions and forums;
 performance workshops which will be
showcased at the Closing Ceremony of
the Seminar

Application & Selection:
 The Junior College CAP is offered only
in English.
 An interested applicant should get
ready a creative writing portfolio. Each
portfolio should comprise creative works
in only 1 literary genre (prose, poetry or
play).
 Please note that expository and
argumentative essays should NOT be
included in the portfolio.

Application & Selection:
 A separate portfolio is required if an
applicant wishes to submit works in more
than 1 literary genre.
 Please note that every successful
applicant will only be chosen for 1 literary
genre.

Application & Selection:
The number of creative works to be
included in each portfolio is as follows.
Poetry: Minimum of 5, maximum of 8
Prose: Minimum of 5, maximum of 8
Play: Minimum of 3, maximum of 5
If an applicant wants to submit portfolios
in different literary genres, each portfolio
must meet the minimum number of works
mentioned above.

Application & Selection:
For prose, short stories or novel excerpts
should not exceed 1,500 words per
piece.
For novels with chapters, up to 3
individual chapters, each not more than
1,500 words in length, will be counted
as part of the number of works to be
included.
In other words, each chapter will be
considered as one submitted piece.

Application & Selection:
The portfolio should not consist only of
chapters from one novel.
Portfolios that exceed the limit in terms of
number of pieces or words are
discouraged and will be assessed at the
judges’ discretion.

outside the Red Level Staff Room]

Drafts will be returned to students, along
with CAP Application Form (Annex C),
Letter of Undertaking (Annex D),
Teacher’s Recommendation Form
(Annex E)

3 copies of edited portfolios to be
submitted, along with 3 copies of CAP
Application Form (Annex C), 1 copy of
Letter of Undertaking (Annex D) and 1

Results:
Results will be made known
in April 2015
Should students be shortlisted,
permission will be obtained from
Senior Administration to excuse
them from class. However, this is
subject to their academic
progress and discipline record

Results:
Successful candidates will
have to pay a fee of $200 (by
cheque) for the Seminar.

Withdrawals:
Successful candidates who
wish to withdraw are required
to submit an official letter of
apology in writing, which must
be sent through the Principal.

Further penalties: You will

have to pay the full S$200 if
you withdraw from the
Seminar after confirming
attendance
