EUCHARISTIC ADORATION
A TRULY PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP WITH JESUS.
In a letter to a child preparing to receive their first Holy Communion, St. Pope John Paul II wrote of the
Holy Eucharist, “Jesus in the greatest Friend you will ever have….tell Him your secrets, tell Him your joys
and the things that make you sad. Tell Him about the people who you love.”
Eucharistic Adoration helps us to be more personally involved with Christ because it makes the Eucharist
more central in the lives of people. By spending time with Jesus in the Eucharist, one is able to establish a
truly personal relationship with Him.
Go in silence. Feel the peace that fills your soul. It brings peace. You will receive renewed strength, energy and it will help you to bring comfort and peace to a suffering world.
Please feel encouraged to spend a few moments, a half hour or an hour in Holy Adoration of the Blessed
Sacrament.
The Carmelite nun and Doctor of the Church, St. Teresa of Avila, heard someone say to her, “If only I had
seen Jesus, if only I had lived at the time of Jesus.” To this she responded: “But do we not have in the Eucharist the living true and real Jesus present before us?
Our Lord is forever with us He Himself says: Behold I am with you all days, even to the consummation of
the world”
ON THE 1ST FRIDAY OF EACH MONTH AT ST. COLETTE PARISH SPEND TIME WITH JESUS IN
HOLY ADORATION. Adoration is held in the Chapel from after Mass at 8:00 a.m. until 5:45 pm Benediction.

Weekly Reflection
GOD'S WORD TODAY
Today the Church remembers all who have
walked the way of Christ and passed from this life.
The readings all look to the last day, when we shall
all rise from the dead and be reunited.
The first reading passage from Wisdom comforts us and assures us that all who live a life of virtue and justice will find life eternal. Even if they
have suffered in this life, they will be comforted and
consoled in the next, and no torment can touch them
there. The reading from Romans urges us to recognize that, because of Christ's paschal mystery and
our entrance into that mystery through baptism, we
now share in the new life won by Christ. This recognition has repercussions: living righteously now, that
we might rise to life forever with Christ on the last
day. In the Gospel reading, Jesus pledges that all
that the Father has given him will not be lost. All the
faithful will be raised to joy and kept safe forever in
the presence of God.
Finally, today's liturgy focuses us on where
we're heading. And where is that? To the destination
of all of life's roads: home. Home is not a house in
the country, an apartment in the city, or a condo in
the suburbs. Home is not where we dwell; it's where
we are loved. Today's feast makes it clear that all
relationships, and therefore all loves, are fleeting,
passing, destined to end--all but one. God is relationship without termination, love without end. And
eternal life with God is a home free from death, separation, and disappointment. Let's take time today to
listen for God's invitation home. It's one that comes
to every faithful person.

The 2014 Election
This November we
will have the opportunity to
cast our ballot in order to help
shape the direction of our
country and our state for the
next two years and beyond.
Election season offers us the
opportunity to reflect on the issues affecting our state
and our nation, and to decide who will represent us
during the next few years. Obviously, there are a
number of ways each of us determines how to cast
our ballot, but as bishops and teachers of the faith we
recommend that you take the time to review the principles in Faithful Citizenship. You can go to
www.ilcatholic.org for a copy.
John Quincy Adams, the sixth president of the
United States said, “Always vote on principle, though
you may vote alone, and you may cherish the sweetest reflection that your vote is never lost.”
Practicing Faithful Citizenship flows from a wellformed conscience. What do we mean when we refer
to “conscience”? According to the Catechism of the
Catholic Church, paragraph 1777, “Moral conscience,
present at the heart of the person, enjoins him at the
appropriate moment to do good and to avoid evil. It
also judges particular choices, approving those that
are good and denouncing those that are evil. It bears
witness to the authority of truth in reference to the
supreme Good to which the human person is drawn,
and it welcomes the commandments. When he listens
to his conscience, the prudent man can hear God
speaking.” Conscience is the carrier of truth, not of
self-will.
This note, obviously, will not tell you whom
to vote for, but it will help you to reflect on the issues
and the person that can best promote the common
good. Reflecting on principles and practicing Faithful
Citizenship is not easy. It will require serious Catholics to inform themselves of the issues important to
the Faithful Citizen and to act accordingly. Some information can be found at www.ilcatholic.org to assist you

LA PALABRA DE DIOS HOY
La fiesta de hoy, que se celebra a fines del
otoño, nos brinda la oportunidad de reflexionar y valorar a Aquél que salva cada hoja que cae y busca comunión con la tierra, Aquél que nos asegura que nunca estamos muertos, a pesar de que todos moriremos
y el invierno esté en camino. La liturgia de hoy nos
recuerda que así como el viñador recoge uvas en el
otoño y el espigador recoge cereales en el otoño, nosotros somos recogidos como la cosecha del deseo de
Dios.
La liturgia de hoy también nos ayuda a centrar nuestra atención en todas las cosas a las que nos
lleva el otoño, concretamente la meta de nuestra vida:
la vida eterna. Requiere audacia declarar que creemos
en la vida eterna. Sabemos que forma parte de nuestro instinto querer creer que existe una vida sin horizontes. Dentro de esta creencia existe nuestro deseo
de un amor más completo. Porque cuando vivimos el
fuego del amor en nuestra vida, la amenaza de que se
extinga está siempre latente. Queremos un amor que
no se consuma, que no tenga fin. En el Evangelio,
Jesús nos asegura que los que acudan a él tendrán
vida eterna con Dios, que es amor puro.
Por último, la liturgia de hoy hace hincapié en
el rumbo que llevamos. ¿Adónde vamos? Al destino
de todos los caminos de la vida: el hogar. El hogar no
es una casa en el campo, un apartamento en la ciudad
ni un condominio en los suburbios. El hogar no es
donde vivimos, es donde somos amados. La fiesta de
hoy pone de manifiesto que todas las relaciones, y
por lo tanto todo tipo de amor, son pasajeros, fugaces, y están destinadas a terminar; todas menos
una. Dios es una relación que nunca disminuye, un
amor sin fin. Y la vida eterna con Dios es un hogar
libre de la muerte, la separación y la desilución. Hoy
dediquémonos a escuchar la invitación de Dios a
nuestro hogar. Esta invitación le llega a toda persona

Overview of National Parish Religious
Education Week
Beginning the week of November 2 – 8,
2014 we will be celebrating for the second year
National Parish Religious Education Week.
Every day of the week some type of religious
education activity is going on in a parish somewhere in the United States and its territories.
As the hub of lifelong faith formation, the parish
– both the people and the place – weaves together essential strands within the fabric of effective Catholic education. NCEA’s annual celebration of National Parish Religious Education
Week highlights the vital role of the parish in
fulfilling the Church’s mission of evangelization
and catechesis.
As a fruit of the Year of Faith, NCEA established the week beginning the first Sunday of
November as an annual National Parish Religious Education Week. During this week,
NCEA focus is on the value of parish-based
efforts to form people of all ages in the Catholic
faith and way of life. Goals for the first few
years of the new celebration include:
Honoring those serving in parish religious
education, Sharing the contributions parish communities are making to sound education in the Catholic
faith, Helping build bridges between Catholic parish
and school educational programs as well as other entities that provide religious instruction and ongoing
faith formation.
The guiding theme for the celebrations in 2013 to
2015 is Encountering Christ Every Day ~
Encuentro con Cristo cada día. Keeping the national theme consistent for the first three years is important to building momentum for the national awareness of the effort, building a “bank” of resources
used in local parish celebrations, and complementing
the changing themes of other efforts such as Catechetical Sunday.
May all we do to advance the Church's mission of
evangelization and catechesis glorify God as we
celebrate encountering Christ everyday.

disciples aware of their personal relationship with
