Interpol President Mireille Ballestrazzi, in remarks at the opening of the General Assembly, described the assembly as “historic” because it coincided with the 100th anniversary of the first international police assembly in 1914. She said the General Assembly witnessed participation of 88 ministers and more than 1,000 representatives from 160 Interpol member countries. Ballestrazzi said Interpol has succeeded in strengthening coordination and communication among member countries. The General Assembly, due until Nov 7, would touch upon further coordination visa-vis international crimes. KUWAIT CITY, Nov 3, (Agencies); Kuwait-based retail operator MH Alshaya said its investment in Yas Mall sees the creation of 2,000 jobs. The company is the international franchise operator for more than 70 of the world’s most recognized retail brands, and it operates over 2,600 stores. MH Alshaya Co said on Sunday it is creating 2,000 new jobs in opening 42 different brands at Yas Mall, the shopping mall set to launch later this month on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi. The store openings represent Alshaya’s single biggest opening on a day, the company said in a statement. The stores in all cover more than 30,000 square meters of retail space, offering shoppers fashion and footwear, food, health and beauty, pharmacy, optics and home furnishing brands. The openings also represent a number of debuts for Alshaya, including the largest international Debenhams department store, the first Pottery Barn Teen and first icing stores in the UAE. Al-Kandari made the statement recently in a meeting with acting Municipality Director General Ahmad Al-Manfoohi and a number of officials from the Interior Ministry and Municipality. During the meeting, the officials discussed the need to strengthen cooperation between the two institutions in preventing the sale of rotten meat and organizing work procedures through the formation of a joint team to deal with the issue. Al-Kandari pointed out the only way to eradicate such negative phenomenon is to strictly apply the law. According to security sources, securitymen rushed to the location after the victim notified the Operations Room of Ministry of Interior about the break-in. However, the suspect had escaped before the police arrived. The victim explained that the suspect, after realizing that no one was home besides the victim, broke into her house and assaulted her violently. She revealed that she was in a relationship with the suspect for five years and had recently threatened to break up with her, which was the reason for the suspect’s assault. Meanwhile, a Kuwaiti youth was arrested from his house in Khaitan area for consuming drugs, reports Al-Rai daily. Reportedly, Hawally securitymen were patrolling Nugra area when they noticed the citizen driving recklessly in a pickup wagon. They stopped him and searched his vehicle to find a pistol, seven bullets, hashish, 30 narcotic pills including valium and phenethylline, a synthetic drug used as a stimulant and marketed under the brand name ‘Captagon’. The citizen appeared disoriented at the time of arrest. He was referred to the Directorate General for Drug Control for necessary legal action against him. In similar incident, A wanted 24year old Kuwaiti citizen was arrested in possession of a pistol and methamphetamine (locally known as ‘Shabu’), reports Al-Watan Arabic daily. According to security sources, Ahmadi securitymen were on patrol when they noticed a young man driving recklessly. They stopped him and checked his details to discover he was wanted by law for several crimes related to consumption and possession of drugs, and was sentenced in absentia to imprisonment. They also found a pistol and methamphetamine with him. He was arrested and referred to the concerned authorities for legal action. ❑ ❑ ❑ Doing drugs in public: A Kuwaiti citizen was arrested at Kuwait International Airport for consuming drugs, reports Al-Shahed daily. Reportedly, the passenger appeared disoriented when he approached the inspection desk and laughed hysterically after telling another passenger that his face reminded him of his father’s GMC vehicle. Inspectors checked him to find a cigarette rolled with hashish in his possession and arrested him. They referred him to the concerned authorities for necessary legal action against him. Establishing the makeshift lake in such a vital spot will have positive effects on increasing the number of living creatures in the area, Head of the team Waleed Al-Fadhil told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA). The project will help in the growth of a sufficient number of bushes and plants, while also providing a habitat for over 15 species of birds, he said, adding that this step is part of the team’s efforts to protect the marine environment. Al-Judailiyat is located south of Kuwait Bay and its sea waters are the main place for fish and other marine creatures to lay their eggs, said Al-Fadhil. Moreover, he noted that the area’s shores are an inter- national crossing for over 300 birds migrating from north Europe to Africa. Al-Fadhil hailed the efforts of the Cabinet, the Ministry of Public Works and volunteers in providing aid to complete this prominent environmental project. CID tackles 1,077 cases Report on kids faking being ‘lost’ denied KUWAIT CITY, Nov 3: The Security Media Department of Interior Ministry shed light on a message circulating on the social networking sites regarding private SMS sent to one officer, which included warning to the public against children who claim to be lost and have no knowledge of their residential addresses, noting allegations that the children pretend to be lost in order to receive help from people is untrue and unsubstantiated. The sector confirmed that no officer from the ministry had received such warning. The Security Media Department urges users of the social networking sites to see to the validity of news shared between them to avoid creating public disorder. Meanwhile, Director General of the General Administration of Criminal Investigation Major General Fahad Ibrahim Al-Dosari said the statistical report of the administration for the third quarter of 2014 revealed that various departments in the Ministry of Interior received a total of 1,077 reports on different cases from external bodies in July. In a press statement, Al-Dosari disclosed there were 1,101 traffic accidents, fingerprints and forensics cases; 1,208 criminal analyses from criminal laboratories and completion of 54,220 transactions in July. In August, 843 cases were reported by external bodies; 1,314 examinations of accidents, fingerprints and forensics cases; 2,140 laboratory analyses and completion of 42,744 transactions. In September, 854 cases were reported by external bodies; 1,268 examinations of accidents; 1,813 laboratory analyses and completion of 39,612 transactions. Within the third quarter, there were 2,774 cases and reports; 3,683 technical inspections of accidents; 5,161 laboratory analyses and completion of 136,576 transactions.
