On behalf of all Shire of Augusta Margaret River Councillors, I welcome you to the 2014 Tour of
Margaret River.
We are thrilled to be sponsoring this year’s event, which serves to showcase the spectacular
Margaret River Region to the participating riders and their friends, families, support crews and
fans.
The event is also an opportunity for the local community to witness some of Australia’s most
elite cyclists in action while providing local riders with a chance to compete at a high level in
their hometowns.
Council is proud to support events that promote healthy, active living and provide for accessible
social engagement.
We wish all the cyclists the best of luck for the event and we trust you will enjoy the wonderful
scenery, produce, attractions and hospitality on offer.

SWCC’S RIDE WITH THE PRO’S Leaving from the Margaret River Chocolate Factory at 9:00am. Riding through the spectacular hills of Wilyabrup before returning to the Chocolate Factory. 10am TOUR REGISTRATION – Registrations open at the Parkwater Tour Village. Team Managers are required to attend and present Cycling Australia Race Licenses for all riders who have not pre purchased a 3 Ride Permit. Signed CA Waivers must also be presented if they have not been submitted prior. STAGE 1 “HOWARD PARK PURSUIT” 25km Team Time Trial START 2:30pm Parkwater Start Line. STAGE 2 “VERVE CYCLING ROAD RACE” -­‐ VASSE FELIX TO AUGUSTA 70km ROLL OUT 7:30am Parkwater Start Line (Group 1, followed by other groups at 5 minute intervals) START 8:00am Vasse Felix, racing to commence precisely 30 minutes after roll out. TOTAL TRAVEL WA Sprint Jersey: Rider with the most sprint bonus seconds. *Please note: The same bonus seconds apply for each group, this single jersey can be won from any group. In the event of at tie this jersey will be awarded to the rider with the best overall time on GC BUNBURY DRILLING COMPANY Orange Jersey (6 on offer): Group Leaders, best overall time for a rider in each of groups 1 to 7, excluding the Group holding the green men’s jersey. RULES AND REGULATIONS Please read all information carefully • Roads remain open for the tour, all normal traffic rules apply. • Teams are to consist of a maximum of 6 riders. • Group 8 consists of all female teams; this group will not be subject to re-­‐grouping after the Stage 1 • Female riders in mixed teams in the open category are eligible for Green jersey, but not the Pink Jersey. • Riders are required to present a Cycling Australia Racing License at registration or have purchased a Cycling Australia 3 Ride Permit online prior to race day registration, (Silver Cycling Australia Licenses, MTBA, BWA or Tri Licenses are not acceptable). • Road Bikes only. Disc wheels, TT bars and aero helmets are not permitted. • Due to CA regulations U17 riders will not be able to participate in the full 2014 tour. • All team members must present to all stages in matching jerseys, with the exception of tour leaders jerseys and professional riders who are contractually prevented from doing so. • Riders crossing unbroken white lines or breaking other traffic rules will be fined and potentially disqualified. Riders crossing lines jeopardize their own safety, the safety of other riders and the future of the tour, it will not be tolerated. • Riders littering will be fined • Protests must be lodged to Commissaires by Team Managers only. • Leaders Jerseys will be presented at the completion of each stage, recipient riders are required to be in attendance. • Supporters’ vehicles must leave prior to the commencement of stages or travel to finish line via alternative routes to the riders. • Supporter's vehicles are not to follow groups or to pass riders during stages. • The race committee reserves the right to make decisions, changes to rules and regulations at any time in the best interest of the race. *The tour is traditionally conducted in a relaxed and friendly manner. All teams and riders are expected to ride and compete in accordance with that tradition. 4
STAGE ONE ”HOWARD PARK PURSUIT” 25km TTT THURSDAY NOVEMBER 6TH START 2:30pm from Parkwater Start Line. Teams leaving at two-­‐minute intervals. Last team to leave at 5:10pm PRESENTATIONS 6:00pm Notes Individual start times to be advised. Team time taken from the fourth rider across the line, with fifth and sixth riders to receive their individual time. Riders not completing the stage will be subject to a time penalty and will be ineligible to win jerseys in the tour. On course warm ups to cease at 2:20pm (switch to internal roads only after 2:20pm) Description Arguably the most important stage of the tour. The results of this stage will place your team into a group where you will race the rest of the tour. The first few kilometres of the course are flat and very fast but then a sharp left turn into Howard Park Estate and the terrain changes. A sweeping downhill through an avenue of plain trees and then across the stone bridge to a punchy little climb up to the cellar door. Once you have regrouped its more minor undulations all the way back to the start line to commence your second lap. Exit course to the left immediately after completing your second lap Important Post stage; make sure that you are aware of your start group for stage two. Results can be found at metarace.com.au 5
STAGE TWO “VERVE CYCLING ROAD RACE” 75km FRIDAY NOVEMBER 7TH START 7:30am Teams will gather into respective groups at the Parkwater Start Line. Group One will depart Parkwater at 7:30am for an 8:00am start from Vasse Felix. Other groups to follow in numerical order at 5-­‐minute intervals. IMPORTANT Spectator and support vehicles are to leave Parkwater by 8:00am and travel to Augusta via Bussell Hwy. All Cars must arrive at the finish line prior to 9:00am FINISH 9:30am Hill View Road Augusta PRESENTATIONS 11:00am Finish Line
Description Undulating, with the opportunity for a break to get away. South of Margaret River the trees get larger and you will soon find yourself immersed in the magnificent Boranup Forest. As you draw nearer to Augusta the profile flattens as you make your way across the plains towards the looming climb of Hill View Road. Note: this year’s stage finishes on the apex of the climb. TIME BONUSES (All groups) First: 60sec Second: 40sec Third: 30sec Fourth: 20sec Fifth: 10sec IMPORTANT Riders and support vehicles are not to descend via Hill View Road prior to 11:00am 6
STAGE THREE “FLY6/60km” Road Race
SATURDAY NOVEMBER 8TH START 9:00am Parkwater Start Line. Group one to leave at 9:00am followed by other groups in numerical order at 5-­‐minute intervals. FINISH 10:30am onwards PRESENTATIONS 2:00pm Pioneer Park, Cowaramup IMPORTANT Spectator and support vehicles are to leave Parkwater by 9:00am and travel to Rosa Brook via Treeton and Jindong Roads. DESCRIPTION The first part of this ride will be familiar from the previous day until you get to Redgate Road and make a left turn. Across to Witchcliffe is a fast sector and expect riders to try and break away. Through the township and a brief stint on the highway before a left turn into Davis Road and the climbs begin to get more significant. We expect groups to be broken up before they make a right turn onto Rosa Brook Road and commence the final five kilometres of the race into Rosa Brook. Expect speeds in the last kilometres of around 60km/h. TIME BONUSES (All groups) First: 60sec Second: 40sec Third: 30sec Fourth: 20sec Fifth: 10sec 7
STAGE FOUR ”CHOCOLATE FACTORY RIDE” 45km START 11:30am All riders are to start at Rosa Brook and then complete the stage by crossing the finish line at Parkwater Estate. FINISH 12:30am Onwards DESCRIPTION After a brief stay in Rosa Brook riders will return to Cowaramup in the company of riders from the Tour de Gracetown. To begin with there is nothing is too challenging about the profiles and towards the middle of the stage the course gets really quick before the hills begin again as you cross the highway and turn in Metricup Road. Back in Cowaramup make sure that you don't have to rush off, as there will be a free concert in Pioneer Park organized by the Tour de Gracetown.

STAGE FIVE “SHIRE of AMR ROAD RACE” 50km START 8:00am Group 6 -­‐ 8:00am, Group 7 -­‐ 8:05am, Group 4 -­‐ 9:30am, Group 5 -­‐ 9:35am, Group 2 -­‐ 11:00am, Group 3 -­‐ 11:05am, Group 1 -­‐ 1:00pm, Group 8 -­‐ 1:05pm FINAL PRESENTATIONS 2:30pm DESCRIPTION At 50km this is not a long stage but expect it to be run at a very high intensity as teams chase time bonuses that will influence the overall results. Three laps of a course that loops from Parkwater Estate to Vasse Felix. The course has undulations, but overall it will be quick and it will take something special to get away from the peloton and stay there, however that will not stop a host of riders from trying. IMPORTANT Information
for spectator and support vehicles STAGE TWO All vehicles must arrive at the Hill View Finish Line prior to 9:00am. Vehicles arriving after 9:00am will be required to park at the base of the climb and occupants will be need to walk 2.5km to view the finish of the stage. STAGE THREE All vehicles are advised to travel to the finish line in Rosa Brook via Treeton and Jindong Roads, as per below map. Cars traveling to Rosa Brook via Margaret River and Rosa Brook Road will potentially be delayed by riders participating in the Tour de Gracetown. 10
