Pastoral letter for October 2014
Hello everyone, can I start off this newsletter by
thanking everyone for their support for 2 important
initiatives, namely our first Cafe Church and our
recent Church Prayer meeting. Both of these were
well attended and, as far as the elders were
concerned, the prayer meeting was especially helpful
and encouraging. The second prayer meeting will be
tonight (28th) at South Street from 8pm-9pm.
October will be quite an eventful month for us all and
much to look forward to – please check this
newsletter for specific dates and times.
On Sunday the 5th will be our early breakfast at South
Street with Andrew Shuttleworth from Vision for Asia
speaking later that morning , and we will be back
again at South Street for Cafe Church in the evening.
On Monday (6th) we will be hosting the annual
meeting of the Devon United Missionary Offering
(DUMO) – please come and support this if you are
able.
The following weekend many of us will be at Heatree
for our church weekend away; there will be a service
at South Street for those unable to come.
That same Sunday (12th) the NFU will be holding their
annual harvest Festival Service at the Queen's
Theatre, Barnstaple, and I have been asked to bring
the message that night – lots of prayer please !
Mally and I would also value your prayers for the
following weekend – Oct 18th & 19th. We will be
spending considerable time with Barnstaple Baptist
Church as they seek their way forward for a new
pastor. Although we know the whole process is very
much in the Lord's hands, we do feel that this could
be His will for our future. (BBC would be looking to
start such an appointment from June 1st 2015)
At the end of this month, Sian is planning another
event as an alternative to the annual Hallowe'en
celebrations. Again, do check the newsletter for
further details.
Clearly, there are changes in store for us all, but we
serve the Captain of our Faith, Jesus himself – and he
is a dynamic, progressive, forward-moving, unifying,
challenging, Lord !
We concluded our prayer meeting with this scripture,
and it's very appropriate here:
1 Chron 28: 20b "Be strong and courageous, and do the
work. Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord God,
my God, is with you. He will not fail you or forsake you
until all the work for the service of the temple of the Lord is
finished."
Every blessing,
Pastor Peter.

Escape the darkness of Hallowe’en
and bring the family to “Glow”. This is a fun
alternative party with games, food, facepainting, glow-in-the-dark disco and bouncy
castle. Its happening at Chivenor Church (just
outside the camp gates) on Fri October 31st,
from 5-7pm. Please bring your friends and
parents, no Hallowe’en outfits - come in white
or bright and you’ll glow better in the dark!
Do let Sian Campbell-Colquhoun know how
many you’re bringing so we get enough hot
dogs!
