Rev. Courtney Clayton Jenkins, C’2004
12
Pastor and Teacher, Euclid Avenue Congregational Church
!
Reverend Courtney Clayton Jenkins currently
serves as the Senior Pastor and Teacher of
South Euclid United Church of Christ
(Formerly Euclid Avenue Congregational
Church, United Church of Christ) in
Cleveland, OH. Just six months before Rev.
Jenkins was called to serve this historical
congregation, the church edifice of Euclid
Avenue Congregational Church was struck
by lightning and the building was completely
destroyed by fire.
With courage, the
congregation called Rev. Jenkins to become
their pastor at this very difficult time. In an
attempt to utilize this devastating fire as a way of allowing God to do “a new
thing”, the congregation offered Rev. Jenkins the distinct honor of being the first
African American, first female and the youngest pastor in the history of the
church. Under her leadership the congregation has experienced exponential
growth and significant revitalization. Much of this is due to her efforts to clarify
mission, establish a strategic plan for growth and intentionally working to equip
lay leaders for effective transformation. Since the age of 27, Rev. Jenkins has
been leading this congregation out of the ashes by the grace of God.
!
Born and raised in Cleveland Ohio, Rev. Jenkins is a graduate of Spelman
College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature. Rev. Jenkins
received her Masters of Divinity degree from Princeton Theological Seminary
with a concentration in Preaching and Congregational Ministry. She is married
to her seminary sweetheart Reverend Cory C. Jenkins, Senior Pastor of the
historic Shiloh Baptist Church and a graduate of Morehouse College; they
recently rejoiced in the arrival of their son, Caleb. Together the couple travels
the country facilitating workshops and seminars stressing family stabilization.
!
Rev. Jenkins was the recipient of the 2012 Star Award presented by the Women
of Color Foundation to a young professional woman who is making a difference
in Northeastern Ohio. Most recently Rev. Jenkins was selected as the 2014
Alumnae Convocation Speaker at Spelman College.
!
Rev. Courtney stays committed to God’s calling and purpose upon her life. She
remains excited about God’s desire to use the next generation to impact this
nation with God’s unconditional love and almighty power. Called for the
purpose of the Kingdom, Rev. Courtney Clayton Jenkins will continue to ensure
“thy Kingdom come, thy Will be done.”

College and received her Masters of Public Health Degree form Walden
University where she concentrated in Health Education and Community Health.
She works throughout the United States, providing awareness and training on
how to implement health education activities. She also serves as Curriculum
and Training Specialist for a variety of health promotion programs to youth and
college women. !
With more than 10 years of Public Health experience, Jackson has been invited
to present her work during many local, national, and international conferences
including but not limited to the National Youth at Risk Conference, The
International HIV Stigma Conference, The United States Conference on AIDS,
The International AIDS Conference, the Women as the Face of AIDS
Conference and NIH Conference on Health Disparities. Jackson is a strong
proponent of partnering and collaborating to accomplish the goals of the
Healthy People 2020 initiative. In addition she applies lessons learned from the
NCNW AAALI Project to develop Worksite Wellness and Women’s Health
programs that focus on promoting health equality. !
As she works toward acquiring a Ph.D. in Public Health, her personal
philosophy is to be a life-long learner as well as an agent for social change and
justice as it relates to motivating and empowering Women of color to mobilize
and self-advocate in order to obtain optimal health and a high quality of life for
themselves, their families and their communities. Jackson gains her motivation
from the memory of both her parents, who died from health disparities and
receives encouragement from her husband of 20 plus years and her three
children. Ultimately, she acknowledges that all of her strength and blessing
comes from the almighty creator. !

!
My Dearest Spelman Sisters,
It is my most sincere pleasure to welcome you to the National Alumnae
Association of Spelman College (NAASC) Northeast Region’s 2014
sisterhood celebration and conference entitled “Renewed, Refreshed,
Rejuvenated Leadership”.
!!
For more than 122 years -- from its beginning in 1892, through its
incorporation in 1976 and even today -- the NAASC has dutifully served
Spelman with love, honor and dignity through community service,
sisterhood, student recruitment and financial support.
!!
!!
3
We hope this conference will encourage you to be your best selves. We
want to refresh your spirit, renew your life with sisterhood and rejuvenate
your mind with unlimited possibilities.
!
This conference is the result of the creative leadership of the chapters of the

Sincerely,
Latecia Engram C’92
Northeast Region Coordinator
National Alumnae Association of Spelman College
As we planned this biennial conference, we wanted to make sure it served
three main purposes:
!
!
• REMEMBER YESTERDAY: Spelman College has an extremely long and
rich history of educating, empowering and encouraging women who
make the world a better place. As we look ahead, we want to make sure
we stay familiar with and true to our roots.
• ACT TODAY: Like many institutions of higher education, we face trying
times. It is imperative that we address the issues not only urgent for
Spelman College but also the National Alumnae Association of Spelman
College. It is our duty to ensure our transformation -- while adapting to
the 21st Century -- maintains our unique identity and yet keeps us at the
cutting edge.
• PREPARE for the FUTURE: Spelman College has been in existence for
over 133 years, to make sure our beloved institution is here another 133
years, we must plant seeds that will keep us connected to the families
we love, the people we lead, the communities we serve and the causes
we support.
Sisterhood
Celebration
The National Alumnae Association of Spelman College (NAASC) is the
official organization that supports Spelman College, a historically black
college for women, through financial gifts, student recruitment,
sisterhood, community service, and recognition of Spelman women.
The Association provides, encourages and promotes growth and
development of alumnae through leadership opportunities and
partnership alliances.
NAASC actively seeks to involve all former
