Health and Wellness
File of Life - Every Second Counts
An ambulance soars past traffic as the medical team
races toward the home of a senior citizen. When they
arrive, the senior is unconscious and they have few facts
to go on. Does the patient have any existing conditions?
Is he taking any medications? Does he have allergies?
Medicare Help
The FILE OF LIFETM card enables medics to obtain a
quick medical history when a patient is unable to offer
one. The card offers a mini-medical history posted on
the outside of one's refrigerator and/or carried in a
wallet or purse. Information such as medications, health
problems, and contact numbers are included.
Whether you are new to Medicare or need to re-enroll,
Stan Denne, a trained insurance counselor from the
Central MN Council on aging will meet with you to
compare plans and find the most cost effective plan for
you. To make an appointment call the Activity Center

Give Thanks Year ‘Round – Volunteer!
A top motivation for volunteers to become involved is as an expression of gratitude for the good things in their
lives. In this month of November – the month of Thanksgiving - as you list the things in your life you are grateful
for, please consider taking action on the gratitude by volunteering in a new way in the community. Consider the
following examples of needed volunteer positions, then contact RSVP to learn more about them and many other
options available:
763.635.4505 OR [email protected]
Little Friends Assistant – At Guardian Angels Care Center a visit from the littlest of people can make the
whole day better. Help a visiting group of daycare preschoolers and toddlers, along with their daycare provider, to
interact with residents by visiting, playing games or looking at books. Tuesdays 10:30 am - 11:30 am.
Adult Basic Education Clerical Assistant - Assist the Adult Basic Education instructor at Handke Family
Center in Elk River to process a variety of clerical projects which may include filing, copying, word processing, data
entry and organization of materials. Volunteer needs to be a self-starter and able to quickly interpret how a task can
best be done. 2-3 hours per week, Fri AM, Wed/Thurs PM or Tues evening best.
Hospital Volunteers – Fairview Northland Medical Center in Princeton seeks volunteers for a variety of
positions throughout the hospital. Volunteers fill a variety of Greeter positions in various departments. They also
assist with clerical, inventory and delivery projects on the campus. Most shifts are 3-4 hours on a weekly or semiweekly basis. Positions available 7 days a week and some evenings.
