A special thank you to Sayako who was

on the day. A fabulous day was had by all.
Fraser Fete 2015
We would love you to join us on Wednesday 5 November at 7pm to begin to organise our Fete that will
take place in March 2015. We will be commencing the planning then, so if you have any feedback, new
suggestions or just want to be involved in a great committee and meet new friends, come along. If you
have some suggestions but cannot make the first meeting please contact Christine Tusch on 0412 329

Hats ON!
All children are required to wear a legionnaire’s or full-brimmed hat, at recess and at lunch and if playing
before school. Those children without hats will not be able to play. We have been talking to the children
about the UV rays and the potential damage to our skin if hats are not worn. If you need support in
acquiring a hat please contact the Front Office.
FROM OUR DEPUTY PRINCIPAL
Cybersafety—safety for children online Keeping children safe online is
important to all of us.
The main concerns are:
 Cyberbullying
Scan the QR code or follow
the link below to access the
Cybersmart parent/carer
guide to online safety.
 Online predators
 Exposure to inappropriate material
 Revealing too much personal information
There are many fantastic websites (see below for a
few examples) with information for parents/carers,
which include suggestions to assist in reducing the
possible negative effects of online activity.
It is important for parents/carers to be aware of
what children are doing “online”. Privacy settings
are an important tool, as well as secure passwords
which are not stored on computers, iPads, iPods
and mobile phones. TIPS FOR KEEPING CHILDREN SAFE
ONLINE

Be aware of wi-fi password security and only
share passwords with adult supervision

Ensure devices are not stored in bedrooms
during the evening
Have a central charging location (possibly
kitchen, family area) where devices are left
when children retire for the night
Don’t let your child post or share photos of
themselves or personal information on social
media
Be sure to check if your child becomes
secretive about online activity.



We plan to host a parent/carer
Cybersafety session in 2015.

ICT SAFETY AT SCHOOL
All Fraser students are required to sign an acceptable use of ICT form
to ensure they understand the expectations of using computers and
other electronic learning devices at school. Appropriate use of
computers and iPads is expected and closely monitored. Each
student has an individual password which is not to be shared. Many
internet sites are blocked to ensure access is appropriate. If the
guidelines are not followed students will have a teacher identified
password to monitor their use.
Please talk to your child's teacher if you have any questions about the
use of devices at school.
SOCIAL MEDIA
There are various types of social media that students may be
accessing. Some examples of these are:

Facebook (recommended for students over 13 years of age)

Snapchat, Instagram and KIK.
If your child is using one of these forms of social media, ensure that
you have access to their current passwords and set up your own
account so you can be a “friend” and monitor their usage and activity.
Students need to be aware that images and comments that are
posted online can’t be completely removed.
The Cybersafety Help Button provides
internet users, particularly children and
young people, with easy online access to
cybersafety information and assistance in
Australia.
The help button is a free application that is
easily downloaded onto personal
computers and mobile devices. Visit
www.cybersmart.gov.au for more
information.
P&C NEWS
World Teachers Day – 31 October 2014
‘A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence
stops.’ -- Henry Brooks Adams
World Teachers Day offers a chance to acknowledge our teachers
and say thanks. Every day at Fraser Primary, teachers are making a
difference, educating and inspiring our children.
World Teachers Day is held internationally on 5 October, however, as
this usually falls during school holidays, the ACT celebrates on the
last Friday of the month.
The P&C would like to take this opportunity to thank the teachers at
Fraser Primary for the amazing learning opportunities they provide
our children and for their dedication and time to the wonderful job
they undertake.
P&C Meeting
The P&C held our first Fraser Friends meeting for term four last
Tuesday morning and the P&C meeting on Wednesday night. Thanks
to everyone who attended.
SCHOOL BANKING
Please note: There will be no School Banking in weeks 7
and 8 this term (27 November & 3 December). The last
day for School Banking will be on Wednesday 17
December in week 10.
Our term 3 “Sensational Savings” School Banking competition will be
drawn at the Year 1/2 school assembly this week and someone will
win a fabulous Acer Iconia tablet! Thanks to Officeworks Belconnen
for supporting School Banking at our school.
Our Preschool community has joined School Banking this term with
the start of our Awesome Super Savers program. Thank you to all
parents/carers who have started their children on their savings
journey. Pat the Dog will be visiting Preschool this week for some fun
and games!
The P&C has donated $2000.00 to the school library which will be
used to purchase a range of picture books, non-fiction books and
quality literature to support the readers Workshop English program.
Wednesday is School Banking Day, and special Preschool banking
days are Tuesday and Friday during weeks 1-5 only. If you’d like to
know more about School Banking, please come and see me in the
library on Wednesday mornings.
Our next meeting will be held on Wednesday of week 8 from 7pm in
the school library and the next Fraser Friends meet will be held on
Tuesday of week 8 from 9am in the school library.

Community Fair
The Community Fair was held on Friday 24 October in the school
hall. It was great to see all the wonderful businesses that the families
of Fraser Primary have to offer. Thank you to all of the families who
held a stall and to the people who came along to support them and
get in a bit of early Christmas shopping!
A big thanks to Deb Coates for organising the event and to those that
helped leading up to and on the night.
Walking School Bus
The walking school bus started last week and has been a great
success – we even have more children signed up to walk to school
already. The walking school bus is a lovely sight to see and the P&C
would like to thank Christine Gaul for coordinating, Principal Sue
Norton for all her time and research into making it happen and the
wonderful volunteers who are making it possible!
Fraser Fete 2015
Although the next fete is not until 15 March 2015, it will be here
before we know it and we want to make sure it is a spectacular day!
To get the ball rolling we would love to invite anyone who is
interested in making the fete a huge success to come along to our
first fete meeting on Wednesday 5 November at 7pm in the school
library.
End Of Year Celebration
The end of year celebration will be held on December 4 this year.
Once again, to thank the community for their support throughout the
year, the P&C will be providing a free sausage sizzle for families,
while we watch the children perform. More information will be
provided in the coming weeks.
Please contact [email protected] with any questions.

for Years 3-6. The theme for the disco is "Blast from the
Past". Students may choose to dress to the theme or just

Supervision will be once again be done by parent/carer

receive sufficient helpers, the night may not go ahead.
It has been almost 3 weeks since the new menu was
introduced and we are still receiving orders with incorrect
prices. From the beginning of week 4 lunch orders will be
adjusted, where possible, to reflect the new pricing. Copies of
the menu can be obtained from the Front Office or the canteen.
Please note the canteen debt book will close for the year at the
end of week 5, please arrange to clear any debts before the
end of term. Thank you.

Canteen Manager
1.Volunteers at our school fall within the following categories:
If you volunteer over 3 times a month or 7 times a year at any
school you will need to apply for a Working with Vulnerable
People Card. These forms can be obtained from the Front
Office. Please complete and then lodge at a government
shopfront for processing. No fee is charged for volunteers.
Once your application is processed you will receive a card. The
card needs to be sighted at the Front Office with the number
and expiry date and any restrictions recorded on an Education
& Training Directorate volunteer form. Every time you come to
the school you will need to sign and write down your card
number and expiry date in the Registered for WWVP book. The
card must be with you.
2. If you volunteer less than 3 times a month or 7 times in any
school year you will need to complete the Education & Training
Directorate volunteer form and sign in as a volunteer every
time you come to the school in the Not Registered for WWVP
book. You will be declaring in this register that you have not
volunteered at any school over the allowed number of visits.
3.If you volunteer once for a specific event e.g. swimming
carnival, you will need to complete an Education & Training
Directorate volunteer form on an annual basis.
If you need any assistance with this information please visit the
Front Office.
