C HILDREN’S PR OGRAMS PROGRAMS Preference is given to LUFSD residents for programs requiring registration. Space permitting, non-residents may register the day before a program. Registration takes place in the Children's Department at 9:00 a.m. on the day listed unless otherwise noted. Parents may register by phone, 731-5728 ext. 500, but preference will be given to on-site registrants. Some programs require in-person registration and/or tickets. Registered participants must be present when the program is scheduled to begin. We regret that a latecomer’s place may be given to those waiting. New Crayon Kiosk! Experience our new Crayon Kiosk that houses 4 iPads equipped with educational apps for kids. The Kiosk is located in the Children’s Department and is on a first-come, first-served basis. Children love using this Emmah, Sabaa, Sufia, & Khushi modern fun technology to learn through sight, sound, and touch. enjoying time at the Kiosk. Storytimes Space permitting, non-residents may register one day prior to storytimes' beginning. Parent's library card and child's birth certificate are needed for registration. Parents may register by phone, 731-5728 ext. 500, but preference will be given to on-site registrants. If registration is by phone, parents must come to the library before their child's first storytime session and present their library card and child's birth certificate and pick up the confirming registration letter. Children may be registered for only one session, except for Baby and Me Time. The Storyhour Room is also used as a TOY ROOM when storytimes, class visits, and other programs are not scheduled. These events take priority over use as a toy room. Please call ahead, 731-5728 ext. 500 to inquire when the room may be used for play. Winter storytimes will be registering the week of January 5th. This ongoing program is designed to encourage reading together. Simply read together with your young child and keep track of what you are reading. We’ll have stickers, bookmarks and a few surprises along the way to 1,000 books before your child starts kindergarten. This program has been made possible, in part, through a grant from More Than a Book For Children Grades K-2 Tuesday, November 18, at 4:30 p.m. Registration begins Wednesday, November 5, at 9:00 a.m. Everyone knows that minnows and sharks can’t be friends! Can Nugget and Fang be different? Two unlikely underwater friends are torn apart when minnow goes to school for the first time and finds out the “truth” about shark. Join us as we read the silly tale of Nugget and Fang by Tammi Sauer. A Musical Holiday Celebration with Brittany Maier Saturday, December 6, from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Limit 4 tickets per patron. She began playing Schubert’s Ave Maria on a toy piano at the age of six and has since appeared on television and performed at Shea Stadium and Carnegie Hall. She has enlightened people around the world without saying a word. The library’s Children, Teen, and Adult programmers have worked together to present a unique performance where Brittany will perform an array of Disney songs and holiday music for patrons of all ages and inspire families with special needs. Our Place Special Needs Storytime Join us for a storytime for children with special needs. Enjoy stories, songs, movement activities and a craft in a comfortable and friendly environment. This storytime is geared for children ages 5 through elementary levels.
