New Ag Dean to Speak at Lancaster Banquet
LANCASTER, Pa. —
The Lancaster Chamber of
Commerce & Industry will
celebrate and recognize the
people who make Lancaster
County’s agriculture worldrenowned at the 38th annual
Agriculture Industry Banquet
5-9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, at
DoubleTree Resort by Hilton,
2400 Willow Street Pike, Lancaster.
The event will feature keynote speaker Richard Roush,
incoming dean of the College
of Agricultural Sciences at
Penn State, who will discuss
the impact of the increasing
demand for food, bioenergy
and fiber on agriculture and
how leveraging the strategic
and innovative prowess of the
agricultural sector will help
ensure that the local economy
continues to thrive.
Roush received his undergraduate degree in entomology
from the University of California, Davis and his doctorate in
entomology from the University of California, Berkeley.
Since then, he has worked
in a variety of higher education settings and frequently
consults for such corporations
as Dow AgroSciences and
Monsanto.

Midwest Bio-Systems is bringing its Compost
Smarter, Not Harder Workshop to Yoders Restaurant,
New Holland, Pa., 9 a.m.-3 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 5.
Topics will include how to increase compost quality,
resolve odor issues whether real or perceived, effectively manage windrows for predictable results and how to
radically reduce turning costs.
The workshop will include a visit to the compost facilities at nearby Penn Valley Farms.
