Carnival Volunteers
It was great to see so many Spring Carnival volunteers at
school last night for the official carnival briefing. There is
a real buzz around the school community about this
exciting community event. I’d like to thank everyone
who has volunteered their time to make it a success,
especially Yogi Johnstone and Meagan Clarke who are
the overall coordinators. Don’t forget you can still buy
your ride wristbands ($25 for unlimited rides) and
carnival cash from Flexischools prior to the event. The
ride passes will be $30 on Carnival day. In order to have
all rides available at the Carnival, we need to pre-sell a
certain amount of wristbands and we are nowhere near
that figure. Now is a good time to buy online!
Kindergarten Orientation
We are very excited about meeting our new 2015
Kindergarten children. This Friday, the first of our three
Kindergarten Orientation sessions begins. After dropping
off their children, our new – and some not so new parents will get to hear from a range of key people
about all aspects of transitioning to school. We welcome
our Kindy parents to our community and we look
forward to working closely with them throughout their
children’s education.
Stage 3 Campers
It’s been a little quiet in the playground lately without
our Stage 3 children. We farewelled them yesterday
morning as they headed off to spend four days in the
beautiful Hawkesbury Valley. There was certainly a lot of
excitement as the boys and girls boarded the coaches.
The teachers have reported that everyone is having a
great time and the weather is beautiful. I’m sure
everyone will sleep well each night after participating in
so many fun, challenging physical activities throughout
the days. We look forward to hearing the stories and
seeing the photos. The coaches are due back at 3pm on
Friday.

The Voice Auditions
Congratulations to the 42 entrants of the inaugural
'Balgowlah North Voice' competition. The three judges
were amazed by the amount of talent on display and
would like to encourage all the entrants to keep on
singing and enjoying their music. Choosing the finalists
was a difficult decision, but the 10 acts who will be
singing on the Entertainment Stage during our Spring
Carnival are:
Eva Rae (1R), Kai Woodward (1S), Alia Taylor (3P), Oscar
Rayel, (3P), Thea Devaris (4W), Kobi Anderson (4J), Elyse
Weston (5M), Lauren Devine (6C) and trios: Jemima
Giffin, Olivia Phillips & Claudia Briger (Year 4) and Layla
Gardner, Maddison Sparkes & Zali McKay (Year 6).
We look forward to seeing them on stage on the big day!
K-2 Sports Day
We were blessed with perfect weather for our K-2 Sports
Day today. The children had a great time and it was
wonderful to see so many parents supporting their
children. Thank you to Mrs Spooner, Mr Rees and the K2 team for organising such a fun day.
P&C Meeting
I hope to see many of you at our P&C Meeting tonight at
7pm in our library. I will be presenting a summary and
analysis of our 2014 NAPLAN results which were again
very positive.
Only 16 days to go until our Spring Carnival…

Beautiful Artwork
One of the striking features of BNPS is the high quality of
artwork completed by students in all classrooms. Our
Office art this week
features work by 2R.
They have created
beautiful pen and
watercolour artworks
inspired by the work
of the famous French
artist, Monet.
Drama Toolbox
This week Years 3 & 4 were involved in drama
workshops linked to their HSIE and English units around
the concept of Sustainability. The workshops raised
sustainability issues and focused on local individual
action that can be linked to positive global community
impacts. Students worked in small groups using dramatic
techniques, costumes, puppets and props to role play
environmental issues linked to their unit of study.

Tricks for encouraging kids to read
Is your child a reluctant reader? Why not try helping
them find the book that goes with a movie or DVD
they’ve enjoyed, or are about to see. Encouraging your
child to read can help them to build their imagination as
well as giving them a better vocabulary. Kids who read
different types of books develop a wide range of
language skills and are better placed to understand
different types of texts as they progress into high school.
School A to Z has lots of tips and ideas on encouraging
your child to read, at http://bit.ly/HLPmB9
Safety around our school
All parents/carers are requested to take extra care to
ensure the safety of all our students while driving
around the school. This is especially important during
morning and afternoon student drop off and pick up
times. Parents/carers are requested to supervise their
children carefully at the crossing in Bardoo Ave and not
to use the speed bump in Manning Street as a crossing.
Please help our teachers by reinforcing the importance
of using the school crossing and not walking through the
staff car park. Please also remember that playground
supervision commences at 8.30am in the morning unless
children are involved in Band, sport training or a group
practice where they are supervised by the organising
staff.

"It's ok to try things out, to ask questions, to feel unsure,
to let your mind wander, to daydream, to ask for help, to
experiment, to take time out, not to know, to practise, to
ask for help again - and again, to make mistakes, to
check your understanding"

Car Free Friday
Next Friday the 7th of November we are holding another
Car Free Friday. Please support this day to promote a
safer environment around our school zone, as well as
the health and wellbeing of your child. Our student
leaders will be waiting at the gates with stickers for
those children who walk to school.
Use this as an opportunity to demonstrate the following
road safety behaviours with your child, as recommended
by Transport for NSW:
- Until your child is at least 8 years old, hold their
hand on the footpath, in car parks and when
crossing the road.
- Until your child is at least 10 years old, supervise
your child very closely and hold their hand when
crossing the road.
