UPDATES
SAD NEWS
Parents may already be aware that Mrs Gill Emsley, retired Reception Teacher, passed away on 30th October after a long fight against
cancer. Many families in the community were fortunate to have Gill as their child's teacher, or even their own teacher, and she was an
inspiration to so many at Eastwick over her long teaching career and even after retirement when she came back as a supply teacher.
She will be greatly missed and our thoughts are with her husband and the family at this sad time.
Supported by Gill's family, we are discussing ways to develop a permanent memorial to Gill, such as planting flowering cherry trees in
the Reception classes outdoor area and resources to enhance the teaching of the reception age children she taught. If you wish to
contribute to the fund, cheques can be made payable to 'SCC Eastwick Infant School' - please write Gill's name on the back of the
cheque.
The family are also supporting the ' Princess Alice Hospice', or any other cancer charity, as a memorial to Gill. Any donations can be
sent to Alan Greenwood & Sons Funeral Directors, 1 New Parade, Leatherhead Rd, Great Bookham, Leatherhead, Surrey KT23 4RL.
STAFFING UPDATE
We are very sad to inform you that Mrs Annette Winsor, Junior Receptionist, will be leaving us at the end of this term to move abroad
with her husband. Mrs Winsor has worked at Eastwick for 10 years and I know the children will be very sad to see her go. If you or your
children would like to send any good luck wishes to her, please do so via Maddie Lovell in the Junior office. We are sure you will join us
in wishing her well and to say bon voyage!
Parents will be aware that we were already recruiting for a Receptionist for the Infant School and following interviews and observations
we have been fortunate to appoint for the Infant position and also for a replacement for Mrs Winsor.
Further information on the appointments will follow next week.
GROUNDS WORKING PARTY
Mrs Sharon Emery, one of our fabulous caretakers, is keen to organise half-termly working parties to further enhance the school
grounds. Further information will follow soon!
BARRIER AND ACCESS TO THE SCHOOL SITE
Please note that the barrier is now back in operation. Please do NOT access the school site when the barrier is down unless
permission has been given. Access is limited to those issued with a pass or for emergencies where permission has been given to do
so. The barrier was installed in order to maintain as safe a site as possible. Thank you for your support.
QUOTES NEEDED!
There is some work which needs to be undertaken across both schools involving the following:
The laying of 5 paths
Preparation of 2 shed bases and the building of 2 sheds
If you know of any small building operation who would be interested in providing a quotation for this work, please ask them to contact
Mrs Maddie Lovell in the Junior school office on [email protected].
SCARLET FEVER
During the last week there has been a case of scarlet fever at the Infant school. Scarlet Fever generally presents as a pink-red rash like
sandpaper to the touch and can start on any part of the body. Most cases of scarlet fever are mild and can easily be treated with
antibiotics. If you have any concerns please seek advice from your child’s GP.
LOST GUITAR!
A child has mislaid their guitar – if your child has a guitar they bring into school, please check if they have inadvertently taken home the
wrong instrument. The guitar is named inside the case. Thank you.
