Attendance Counts!
Some learning can’t be made up. While students have the
opportunity to complete missed work for excused absences,
class discussions are where so much learning occurs.
Missing just two days of school each month can put the
student behind his or her peers. Attendance counts. Please
help your child develop good habits by encouraging him or
her to get a good night’s sleep and to attend school every day.
Thank you for partnering with us to ensure your child's
academic success.

Team Up for St. Jude!
This year the Oak Ridge Varsity Cheerleaders and the
Football players teamed up to raise money for St. Jude’s
Children’s Hospital. For the past two weeks, the cheerleaders
conducted a change war on both campuses in all of the
English classes. The teacher who raised the most money
would receive free Canes for all of his/her students paid for
by the cheerleaders. The student body raised over $5,ooo in
8 days, and the winner, junior teacher Mrs. Theresa
Neeman, won the contest with over $1,000 in her bucket.
Her students decided to take the cost of the food and donate
it right back to St. Jude’s.
At Thursday’s Varsity game against Summer Creek High
School the football team celebrated St. Jude’s by wearing a
decal on their helmet and the cheerleaders supported the
hospital by wearing a St. Jude bow and a St. Jude t-shirt. The
t-shirt was sold with profits being donated to the hospital.
With all of the combined activities the grand total that was
raised for St. Jude’s was over $6,000.00

The ORHS Varsity Women's choir, also known as the
A Cappella Choir, warmed up before they left for contest at
the Renaissance festival on Wednesday, November 5. The
two Renaissance style songs that they performed were from
the 1600s. The first song is called "How Merrily We Live"
and the second was a French song called "Il est bel et bon."
The period of Renaissance music is the first time that music
was notated and performed without any religious
affiliations, and would be performed at social gatherings as a
form of entertainment. Our Oak Ridge Choir placed second
at the Renaissance competition. Congratulations ORHS
Varsity Women’s choir!

Teresa Shisk-Saling, LVT from Reptile Hospice and

of native and pet trade reptiles to the students in the Small
Animal Management Classes on Thursday, November 6,
2014. Pictured above is Copper, an African Spurred Tortoise
or Sulcata Tortoise, who is four years old and weighs 25
pounds.
The Sulcata Tortoise starts out small enough to fit in the
palm of your hand, but with excellent and appropriate care,
will eventually tip the scales at a whopping 200 pounds. They
can live to be 150 years old. This is the reason that they end
up at the Reptile Hospice and Sanctuary of Texas.
