he 28-mile Chula Vista Greenbelt system
encircles the City and includes a variety of
open space, parks, and trails that extend
through the Otay Valley, Otay Reservoirs,
Sweetwater Valley, National City and the
Bayfront. Originally envisioned in the City of
Chula Vista’s 1989 General Plan, the Chula Vista
Greenbelt is the City’s emerald necklace.
Multi-Use Trail System
The Greenbelt’s 28 miles of
existing and planned
multi-purpose trails (see reverse
side) provide opportunities for
improved health and fitness,
and convenient access to the
outdoors. The Greenbelt crosses
through several jurisdictions,
connects numerous trail
networks, and provides access to
a wide variety of recreational
amenities.
Unique trail markers have
been installed along the
Greenbelt to assist users in
navigating 21 miles of existing
trails. Each trail marker has a
jurisdictional logo and trail
name, as well as the Centennial
Greenbelt logo to memorialize
the establishment of the trail
system in Chula Vista’s
Centennial year. Look for the
trail markers along each trail!
Trails within the remaining
seven miles of the
Greenbelt are still being
planned and will be added
in the future. They are
indicated with a dashed
line on the map (reverse
side) and signs will be
posted once they’re open.
Trail Indicators
The trail map is divided
into trail segments (A-F)
and identifies points of
interest, recreational
amenities, parks,
restrooms, parking and
equestrian staging areas
that are located within
each segment. These
features are indicated with
the applicable symbols on
the trails map, and a
description of each of the
amenities and points of
interest are included here.
A
Centennial
Trail
City of
Chula Vista
The Chula Vista
Olympic Training
Center (OTC) is a
155-acre complex
adjacent to Lower
Otay Reservoir.
The Center has
sport venues and support
facilities for archery, BMX,
canoe/kayak, cycling, field
hockey, rowing, soccer,
softball, tennis, track & field
and triathlon.
The OTC accommodates
visitors with both self-guided
and escorted tours of this
state-of-the-art facility at no
charge.
Otay Lakes (Lower &
Upper Reservoirs) are
part of the City of San
Diego's municipal
water supply system.
The public can use the
reservoirs for fishing and
boating; however, camping
and swimming are not
allowed. A concession stand at
Lower Otay Lake sells fishing
licenses, bait - shiners,
crawdads, nightcrawlers, meal
worms and wax worms, and
boat rentals.
Mountain Hawk Park is a 12acre community park located
at 1475 Lake Crest
Drive. It offers
spectacular views of
Lower Otay Lakes and
nearby mountains.
Sweetwater River and three
lakes into play on 18 holes.
With four tee settings and
gently rolling fairways, this
municipal golf course provides
players of all skill levels with an
enjoyable experience. The
course is surrounded by a 3.3
mile multi-use trail and
connects to Rohr Park.
Amenities include an
amphitheater, splash pad
water feature, basketball court,
soccer field and picnic areas.
Montevalle Park &
Recreation Center is
in Rolling Hills Ranch
between Duncan
Ranch Road and Hunte
Parkway. Various
amenities within the 29-acre
park include three multipurpose fields, a softball field,
basketball and tennis courts, a
skate area, off-leash dog area,
playgrounds, walking trail, and
numerous picnic shelters and
picnic areas. The recreation
center has a gymnasium,
multi-purpose rooms,
restrooms, craft rooms, and a
game room.
Mount San Miguel Park is a
19.5-acre community park
located at Mount
Miguel Road and
Paseo Veracruz. Park
amenities include
ballfields, barbeque
grills, a dog park,
picnic areas, play
equipment, and restrooms.

Sweetwater
There are two equestrian
staging areas within the park−
one at Summit Park, and one
at the Sweetwater Regional
Staging area (Segment C) at
the western end of Bonita
Road. The Summit Park
equestrian staging area offers
corrals and water. The
campground is located at
3218 Summit Meadow Road,
off San Miguel Road just east
of Proctor Valley Road.
The 18-hole Bonita Golf
Course features a 6,287 yard
course nestled in the serene
Bonita Valley. It features a
pro-shop, a banquet hall and a
restaurant that is open to the
public Monday – Sunday.

Regional Park is
comprised of
several staging
areas, a
campground,
hundreds of acres
of streamside
vegetation, grassland,
and open areas that
provide a variety of
habitats for hikers,
horseback riders, and
mountain bikers. The
Sweetwater Summit
Park and Campground,
located just east of Proctor
Valley Road in Bonita, offer
playgrounds, an aquatic park,
a 2,000 sqft community room,
picnic pavilions, a 13 station
exercise course, 15 miles of
multi-use trails, and a
campground amphitheater.

Chula Vista
Municipal Golf
Course
offers a
long and
challenging layout
from the back tees
and brings the
Rohr Park was
constructed on the
flood plain of the
Sweetwater River and
was acquired through
the generosity of Mr.
Fred H. Rohr. This 60acre active
recreational park offers
ballfields, basketball courts, a
fitness course, picnic areas,
gazebos, play equipment, and
soccer fields. It is also directly
linked to a 3.3. mile multi-use
trail that encircles the
Chula Vista Municipal Golf
Course. There is an equestrian
staging area at the east end of
the park that offers ample
parking, a round pen and a
mid-sized arena. Rohr Park
blends its amenities with the
stately historic Rohr Manor
building and adobe house,
creating a unique park setting
for the City of Chula Vista and
surrounding area.
Part of Sweetwater
Regional Park,
Sweetwater Western
Staging Area is
located at the corner
of Bonita Road and
Plaza Bonita Road. There is
parking, shade and picnic
tables. There are also hitching
posts and water for horses.

Bikeway
National City
The staging area
at Westfield
Shopping Mall
Plaza Bonita is an
indoor shopping
mall located at
3030 Plaza
Bonita Road in
National City. There
are approximately
160 restaurants, retails
stores, an indoor
fitness facility and a
movie theater. The
staging area for the Sweetwater
Bikeway is across the street from
Outback Steakhouse on Plaza
Bonita Road.
The Sweetwater
Bikeway runs along
the Sweetwater River
opposite the Plaza
Bonita Shopping
Center staging area on
the east to the yacht harbor at
the mouth of the Sweetwater
River and the Bayshore
Bikeway.
Intermediate access to the
Bikeway is available at 2nd
Avenue and W. 33rd and
Hoover. Parking is available at
all entrances. Restrooms and
additional parking are
available at Pepper Park, two
blocks from the west end of
the Bikeway.

The famous
sculpture
"Konoids" by
Kenneth Capps
adorns the
shoreline of the
family-friendly Chula Vista
Bayfront Park. Park
amenities include
walking and bike paths, a
boat launch, a fishing
pier, picnic tables, and a
playground.
Coastal Trail
City of Chula Vista
The Bayshore
Bikeway is a
24-mile bicycle
track around the
San Diego Bay.
Approximately 13
miles of bicycle
paths are in use on the
Bikeway; the remaining track
consists of on-street sections
designated as either bicycle
lanes or bicycle routes.
The Living Coast
Discovery Center is a
non-profit zoo and
aquarium that sits on the
316-acre Sweetwater Marsh
National Wildlife Refuge. The
Discovery Center is an
interactive wildlife learning
experience and is home to
moray eels, leopard sharks,
stingrays, guitarfish and other
marine life found in San Diego
Bay. A complimentary shuttle
transports visitors from the
parking lot to the Discovery
Center every 15 minutes.
The Chula Vista
Marina provides
visitors with a
quiet, peaceful
setting, and
top-quality facilities and
amenities, including two
restaurants. The tall,
swaying palm trees and pristine,
park-like setting of Chula Vista
Yacht Harbor presents a
tropical paradise with
uncrowded waters and
spectacular sunsets.
Marina View Park
offers play equipment,
picnic and open areas,
and beautiful views.

Otay River
The OVRP offers miles of
multi-use trails for hiking,
biking, and limited equestrian
use, seven (7) staging areas, a
ranger station, and the Finney
Overlook (3950 Byrd St.), an
interpretive viewpoint focused
on aviation. The ranger station
is located at 2155 Beyer Blvd.
