The Mane Line News St. Mark Lutheran School Newsletter A Workshop in Christian Life Friday, October 31, 2014 ~~~~SPECIAL INFO FOCUS~~~~ LOOK AT ALL THAT IS HAPPENING ON NOVEMBER 15TH AT ST. MARK!! St. Mark Lutheran Mary Martha Guild’s Place: St. Mark Gym Time: 9:00 am-3:00 pm AND Principal’s Reflections Grades 6-8 have just returned from their trip to Washington, D.C. While in Washington, the students were able to visit many of the historical and cultural sites which Washington, D.C. has to offer. They visited the U.S. Capitol Building. They were able to visit the Museum of American History where they saw the original Star-Spangled Banner from the War of 1812. They visited the Smithsonian Hazy Center where they were able to see the progression of our aviation history from early gliders to the space shuttle. The class also visited the beautiful and inspiring National Cathedral. They also visited many of the other memorials which are everywhere in Washington, D.C. – memorials to the veterans of World War Two, the Korean War and the Vietnam War and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington Cemetery. While visiting these memorials, it is very easy to see that a big part of our American history has been marked with conflict. These conflicts (wars) have been the reason that we in the United States have been able to live in freedom. It is an absolute fact that all the freedoms we enjoy today, all the blessings we have, come with a great cost. The interesting thing about Freedom is that it is indeed not free; for every freedom we have there has been a great cost. The good news for us is that we are twicefreed people. We are blessed to be living in the freest country in history and we are also enjoying the freedom we have from sin. Like our other freedoms, this freedom also has a cost. This cost, however, was something we could not possibly pay. Jesus, God’s own son, had to pay the cost which He did for us on the cross on Calvary. Today the students are back in the classroom learning their Math, English and Science. The memories of their trip will always be in their hearts and minds. We all can celebrate the fact that we are indeed blest to be twice-freed people. The freedom we have in living here in the United States and the freedom we have as Christians through Jesus Christ.
