Happy Thanksgiving KAD Board Meeting 2013-15 Board Leonard Hall Vice President The next board meeting will be held at Olathe Club of the Deaf on Saturday, November 22, 2014 from 9:00 am to 12 noon. The meeting was supposed to be held in Hutchinson, but the plan changed due to a few other commitments on the same day. These actions on the follow three items were taken as follows: 1. KAD sent a letter (via email) to Deaf Cultural Center Foundation (DCCF) President David Rosenthal, and maintain the communication with KAD President Ann Cooper and the appointment of Chriz Dally will be announced shortly 2. KAD sent a letter (via email) to NAD President Chris Wagner of KAD’s interested to be involved on one of NAD’s priority on outreach to deaf youths including mainstreaming. A response from NAD President indicates that a follow-up from the youth coordinator will be responded shortly. 3. KAD sent a letter (via email) to Kansas Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Established in 1909! KAD (KCDHH) Executive Director Robert Cooper concerning research and advocate for state funds for better service for deaf and hard of hearing Kansans. KAD’s letter was mentioned during the Commission Meeting on Friday, October 10th. KAD should be hearing how the process goes shortly. KCDHH Commission Meeting The Kansas Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (KCDHH) commission meeting was held on Friday, October 10th at Kansas School for the Deaf’s (KSD) Emery Elementary Gym. There were about 15 commission members in attendance including Chriz Dally, KAD representative as a new member. Joan Macy, KSD’s Outreach Services, gave her presentation about the general information about KSD’s programs. On the next agenda item, about 8-10 people made their public comments concerning program or services or any issues in the State of Kansas. KAD President Ann Cooper made a short comment that KCDHH needs to expand more positions - currently they have two positions, which is not enough. KCDHH used to have 5-6 positions in the past. After the meeting, KSD provided a special tour of the school to show the new apartments of a program teaching seniors how to live independently. The agenda will be to plan and finalize all forms (registration, booth, sponsorship, call for presenters/ interpreters). The Anderson twin brothers (one is deaf and another is a CODA) will be performing during the Entertainment Night. More information will be posted soon. The next fundraising event will be another Silent Dinner at Pizza Street on November 3rd from 5pm to 9pm at 2018 E Santa Fe St, Olathe, Kansas. Hello Kansans from President Ann Cooper: The KAD Board wishes everyone Happy Thanksgiving with your friends and families gathering around for the dinner on Thursday, November 27, 2014. Share your happy thoughts, optimistic plans and dreams with your family. On Friday, October 10, 2014, I attended KCDHH commission meeting at KSD’s Emery Gymnasium. There were about 50 people in that room, and the meeting was very productive. On Sunday, October 25, 2014, I participated in the first NAD Region 2’s Virtual Meeting (video conference with multiple pictures of each individual) with nine (9) other State Association Presidents, both Region 2 board members and NAD President. The video conference was able to have twelve (12) individuals, see photo below. Please check our website for more information about the conference including lodging and registration in the coming few weeks. Upcoming Events Monday, November 3, 2014: Silent Dinner at Pizza Street in Olathe from 5pm to 8pm. Monday, November 3, 2014: K-CAP committee meeting at OCD. Saturday, November 22, 2014: KAD Board will have meeting in Olathe. KAD Membership As a KAD member, you receive monthly newsletter, having your opportunity to serve on the board or to be on the committee member, and to participate and vote during the biennial conferences and business meetings. If you want to join KAD member, the individual membership is $10 per year or $20 for two years. There are other programs (optional) if you wish to donate. On Tuesday, November 4, 2014 is the Election Day! As registered voter, please go to the poll and vote! Your vote really counts, and let’s find out who will be our next Kansas Governor, Senator, Representatives, and other elected positions within State of Kansas! The K-CAP committee members have committed to attend the meeting each month, and getting stronger! KAD KAD Board Meetings November 22, 2014 - Olathe Spring 2015 - TBD On November 18, 2014, I plan to go to Topeka for Kansas Special Education Advisory Council meeting.
