Deaf and Hard of Hearing Day at
the Capitol
DON’T FORGET: MARCH 4, 2015
Please see the flyer on the right for additional
information.
KAD is one of ten (10) or more exhibition
booths at the capitol building. Also, KAD is
one of four (4) sponsors for the event.
Note: Visitors Center at Capitol is at the North
Entrance, which is the only public entrance. There are some free underground parking
under the Visitors Center at the Capitol.
Please go into SW 8th Avenue between SW
Harrison St and SW Jackson St to enter the
underground parking lot.
Approximately 200 people from over the
statewide of Kansas are expected to come. As
noted on the flyer, interpreters will be provided
for each tour at Statehouse and Rotunda.

Day at the Capitol
Kansas Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (KCDHH), in conjunction with the Kansas State
School for the Deaf and the Deaf Cultural Center, is proud to announce Deaf and Hard of Hearing Day at
the Capitol. Come show your support for the deaf and hard of hearing at the Statehouse, hear speakers
on various issues and view exhibits and presentation of resources from more than 10 organizations.

Amendment to KAD Bylaws

needed in areas of employment and VR

I am happy to announce that we have
25+ proposals for workshops and we
hope to announce the workshop names
and schedules in March. Once the
schedules are finalized then will send
out announcement on Facebook and
emails.
The members of the 2015 KAD Law
Committee are KAD VP Leonard Hall,
Past President Julie Theel and Jack
Cooper. Proposed amendment to the
KAD bylaws must be submitted to

conference date of June 11th. Lastly, but not least, KAD is happy to
be working as a partner with KCDHH
to bring back the Deaf and Hard of
Hearing Day at the Capitol which is an
important event that keeps legislators
aware of our presence!

about NAD and Youth Programs
(JrNAD). Please come to the
conference to meet Jenny and ask her
questions about NAD.

It is recommended that any proposed
amendment be submitted as soon as
possible, you have a draft of the
proposed amendment, so that changes
can be made before the final draft is
submitted to the Law Committee. Please include your reason for
submitting the proposed amendment.
Updates about KCDHH

Since Robert Cooper became the
Executive Director last year, KAD is
pleased to see how he is helping to
bring KCDHH and Deaf issues to the
forefront and building and/or fortifying
relationships with many policy-makers
and organizations in the state. Among many projects he has taken on,
Robert has been working closely with
Commissioner Suz Dennis to wrap up
the end of KQAS Evaluations for
interpreters and begin a new system of
what is required for sign language
interpreters to receive and maintain
their state certifications which KAD
hopes will vastly improve quality of
interpreting services. Chriz Dally, KAD’s Member-At-Large
became a KCDHH Commissioner on
KAD’s recommendation to the
Governor’s office and started her
position in October 2014. Chriz has
agreed to take on the role as Chair of
the newly formed Employability & VR
Task Force which will focus on
K-CAP is traveling!

K-CAP has been making progress in
becoming visible to the Deaf
Community-at-large all over the state. K-CAP members will be making two
trips in March. The first trip will be to
Hays on Saturday, March 14th at the
Hays Association of the Deaf, and the
second will be to Wichita on Saturday,
March 28th at the Wichita Association
of the Deaf, to share what K-CAP is all
about. Please come and attend if you
will be in either one of those towns!
As I see it....
Hello Kansans from President Ann
Cooper:
On Saturday, February 7, 2015, I went
to the KU’s Allen Fieldhouse for clean
up event after the conclusion of the
women’s basketball game between KU
and Oklahoma State. Appreciation
with thank to these volunteers for help
KAD/KAI-RID conference committee
with the fund-raising project.
On Wednesday, February 18, 2014, I
went to the educational meeting called
“Kansas Children, Kansas’ Future”

“community conversations” about
educations from January 22 through
February 19 in the different towns
among the state of Kansas. Kim
Anderson, Jack Cooper and Kim

productive.
