K G W A Kansas Ground Water Association Newsletter October 2014 KGWA Members, Shortly after my summer newsletter it started raining in SW Kansas. We had record breaking rains in June and nice rains in July and August to make it a much better summer than we have had in a while. The drought is not over, but this is a nice start. Most areas will even have some nice dry land crops. We had our Fall Seminar and Golf Tournament a couple weeks ago. Even though our Fall Seminars are typically not as well attended as our Spring Seminar, I consider it a success and certainly a lot of fun. This is a great opportunity to get away for a couple days after the long hard summer to enjoy the fellowship of other contractors, pick up a new idea or two at the seminar, test out you skills at the casino and get the opportunity to play golf at a fantastic golf course. Even if you don’t golf or partake in the casino games, it’s a great place to relax and have fun! If you take advantage of the new “Gold Membership” this seminar is free. We plan to explain the “Gold Membership” in more detail at our Conference in January. We do our best to offer informative and interesting classes at our seminars. Our goal is to provide presentations on topics of interest to you. So if you would let us know what topics would be of interest to you or tell us about a presentation you may have seen elsewhere that you think would be beneficial to others we will do our best to provide them. Have you considered serving on the Board of Directors for this great association? We have four board members that have served for many years and have indicated that this will be their last year. That means will need a few replacements. We have had a couple that have expressed an interest, but we still need a couple more. Maybe it’s time to share your time and talent! The organization helps with mileage and motel expenses. Please call for more details. We always appreciate your input. How can the KGWA serve you better? Plan to attend out Annual Conference on January 21st – 23rd in Hutchinson. I look forward to seeing you there! The Convention will offer many great seminars and training courses that should be of interest to everyone needing to further their education. Seminars are shaping up to be very interesting and informative for all aspects of the water industry; whether you’re a contractor, regulator, geotechnical expert, or business manager….or a combination of all. **Exhibitor registration information has been sent out! Booths will be assigned on a first come, first serve basis, to KGWA Members first, then to non-members. Every effort will be made to give you the location you request. Let us know if you don’t receive information and would like to exhibit! The Ramada in Hutchinson is under new ownership. The new owner’s have been making improvements such as new boilers for hot water and new individual heat and air units in the rooms on the north side of the hotel. More improvements are planned. KGWA President Bruce Reichmuth and I will be attending the Governor’s Conference on the Future of Water in Kansas on November 12th and 13th. He will be announcing the 50 year vision plan that has been worked on for the last year. Updates in next newsletter.
