About the University
Established in 1857, University of

Chepauk, Marina, Guindy and
Taramani.
About the Centre for Advanced
Studies in Botany
The University Botany Laboratory
(UBL) was established in 1930 and it
acquired the CAS status from the UGC
in 1964 and retaining the status for
more than 50 consecutive years. The
CAS in Botany is well known for its
pioneering research contribution on
Plant Pathology, Mycology and
Algology. The Center has also
contributed extensively on the
medicinal plants and herbal drugs.
Eminent Professors like
M.O.P. Iyengar, T.S. Sadasivan,
C.V. Subramanian, T.V. Desikachary,
A. Mahadevan, J. Lalithakumari,
N. Anand and R. Rengasamy have
served as Directors of this Centre.
Prof. N. Raaman is the current
Director. CAS in Botany is fully
equipped with all necessary
laboratory facilities and other
infrastructure.
About the SMP
Society for Conservation and
Development of Medicinal Plants
(SMP), New Delhi, India, has been
functioning to create a forum at
international level for bringing
together individuals and
organizations involved in medicinal
plants by organizing conferences,
symposia and workshops and
helping to the exchange of
knowledge to different stakeholders.
It explores new areas in Medicinal
Plant Research. SMP constantly
interacts with government agencies,
scientific organization and NGOs to
promote and protect interests of
Medicinal crop growers and
producers. It publishes one
international journal “Medicinal
Plants” and “Asian Herbal Show
Newsletter”.
About the Conference
In this population explosion era, with diminishing natural resources, mankind is experiencing
the inefficacy of drugs against diseases and new diseases with limited scope for the
management. Moreover, the chemical way of drug making creates incurable environmental
and health hazards. In this context, the medicinal plants and herbal drugs are considered as
promising candidates to combat new and older diseases. This International Conference on
Medicinal Plants and Herbal Drugs for Human Welfare aims to focus on the trend in the
bioprospecting of medicinal plants for making herbal drugs.

Call for Abstracts
Abstracts denoting the themes of the Conference are invited for presentation. Abstracts should not exceed more than 300 words typed in MS word font size 12 in Times New Roman in single line space. The presenting author should be indicated by an asterisk. A soft copy
should be sent by e-mail to the Organizing Secretary, ICMP 2015 on or before 15-12-2014.
