Land of Rest
Blessed be God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit
And blessed be GodÊs kingdom, now and forever. Amen.
Spoken at 8:00: Glory to God in the highest,
and peace to his people on earth.
Lord God, heavenly King,
almighty God and Father,
we worship you, we give you thanks,
we praise you for your glory.
Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father,
Lord God, Lamb of God,
you take away the sin of the world:
have mercy on us;
you are seated at the right hand of the Father:
receive our prayer.
For you alone are the Holy One,
you alone are the Lord,
you alone are the Most High,
Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit,
in the glory of God the Father. Amen.

Celebrant The Lord be with you.
And also with you.
Celebrant Let us pray together.
2
O God, whose blessed Son came into the world that he might destroy the works of
the devil and make us children of God and heirs of eternal life: Grant that, having
this hope, we may purify ourselves as he is pure; that, when he comes again with
power and great glory, we may be made like him in his eternal and glorious
kingdom; where he lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for
ever and ever. Amen.
Amos 5:18,21-24
Thus says the Lord, the God of hosts, the Lord:
I hate, I despise your festivals,
and I take no delight in your solemn assemblies.
Even though you offer me your burnt offerings and grain offerings,
I will not accept them;
and the offerings of well-being of your fatted animals
I will not look upon.
Take away from me the noise of your songs;
I will not listen to the melody of your harps.
But let justice roll down like waters,
and righteousness like an everflowing stream.
Hear what the Spirit is saying to GodÊs people.
Thanks be to God.
Psalm 70 Deus, in adjutorium
At 10:15: Antiphon
1 Be pleased, O God, to deliver me; *
O LORD, make haste to help me.
2 Let those who seek my life be ashamed and altogether dismayed; *
let those who take pleasure in my misfortune draw back and be disgraced.
3 Let those who say to me "Aha!" and gloat over me turn back, *
because they are ashamed.
Antiphon
4 Let all who seek you rejoice and be glad in you; *
let those who love your salvation say for ever,
"Great is the LORD!"
3
5 But as for me, I am poor and needy; *
come to me speedily, O God.
6 You are my helper and my deliverer; *
O LORD, do not tarry.
Antiphon
1 Thessalonians 4:13-18
We do not want you to be uninformed, brothers and sisters, about those who have died,
so that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. For since we believe that Jesus
died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have
died. For this we declare to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive, who are
left until the coming of the Lord, will by no means precede those who have died. For the
Lord himself, with a cry of command, with the archangel's call and with the sound of
God's trumpet, will descend from heaven, and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we
who are alive, who are left, will be caught up in the clouds together with them to meet
the Lord in the air; and so we will be with the Lord forever. Therefore encourage one
another with these words.
Hear what the Spirit is saying to GodÊs people.
Thanks be to God.

The Holy Gospel of Our Lord Jesus Christ according to Matthew
Glory to you, Lord Christ.
Jesus said, "Then the kingdom of heaven will be like this. Ten bridesmaids took their
lamps and went to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish, and five were wise.
When the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them; but the wise took flasks
of oil with their lamps. As the bridegroom was delayed, all of them became drowsy and
slept. But at midnight there was a shout, `Look! Here is the bridegroom! Come out to
meet him.' Then all those bridesmaids got up and trimmed their lamps. The foolish said
to the wise, `Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.' But the wise replied,
`No! there will not be enough for you and for us; you had better go to the dealers and
buy some for yourselves.' And while they went to buy it, the bridegroom came, and those
who were ready went with him into the wedding banquet; and the door was shut. Later
the other bridesmaids came also, saying, `Lord, lord, open to us.' But he replied, `Truly I
tell you, I do not know you.' Keep awake therefore, for you know neither the day nor the
hour."
The Gospel of the Lord.
Praise to you, Lord Christ.

Sermon: The Rev. Kathleen Kingslight
Affirmation
~ please stand as you are able ~
We believe in God, the creator of all life and beauty,
who blesses our journey.
We believe in Jesus Christ,
who lived as a friend and savior to all he met
as he traveled
and who ate and laughed, wept and celebrated
with them in love.
We believe in the Holy Spirit,
who rides on the gentle breeze,
who strengthens our bindings, and
who offers eternal hope.
We believe in the church
which stands open to all travelers,
and bears witness to the everlasting love of God.
The Vision & Mission of St. PaulÊs Church
We celebrate the mystery of God's love for ALL.
As an inclusive and progressive community of faith:
We seek Christ in all creation;
We provide a safe place for everyone on their spiritual journey;
And equip all to do God's work in the world.
Prayers of the People
Through baptism, God has made us the people of hope. Our hope is in God and our
help comes from God. Since God promises to make all things new, let us offer our
cares and concerns to God, saying, O God, who is our hope, Hear our prayer.
Gracious creator, ruler of the universe, we know neither the day nor the hour when the
Lord Christ shall return to claim the faithful. Through your saving and sustaining
grace, enable us to remain in readiness and to welcome his appearing. O God, who is
our hope, Hear our prayer.
5
All-loving Creator, maker of worlds, strengthen us in the work of planetary stewardship,
and inspire and empower us to leave to our descendents an Earth healthier than the
one we inherited. O God, who is our hope, Hear our prayer.
We pray for Katharine our Presiding Bishop, Greg our Bishop, Kathleen, our rector;
and Betsy, who is an aspirant, and for the holy church of God throughout the world.
Eternal Creator, author of unity, bind your people together into one holy church.
Remove the barriers that separate Christian from Christian, and enable all the baptized
to offer common praise to your and common witness to the world. O God, who is our
hope, Hear our prayer.
We pray for Barack our president and Jay our governor, for those who wield earthly
power. Merciful Creator, source of all compassion, look with pity upon our world.
Help us overcome the ravages of war, disease, hunger, and injustice; give dignity and
well-being to all the human family. Visit us with your love; grant us peace; point us to
the way that leads to fulfillment and sufficiency for all. O God, who is our hope, Hear
our prayer.
Almighty Creator, protector of all life, we plead with you to grant healing and
wholeness to the sick, especially Ed Arnold, Ann Ball, Phillip Aponte, Marscha Irving,
Pam Armstrong, Sarah Hall, Larry Dugan, Mary Chapman, Marydale Mahar, Jane
Evans, Dennis Style, Doug, Bill Harris, Jim Ullstrom, Sister Rita Rose Vistica, Kelly
Boyd, and Linda Duncan. Are there others? (wait for silence) For the sick, the grieving,
the lonely, for those who have no one to pray for them, lay upon them your hand of
mercy; renew and restore them, giving them cause to proclaim and praise your name.
O God, who is our hope, Hear our prayer.
Divine Creator, perfecter of all life, behold the dying, who no longer await the return of
the bridegroom, but rush to meet him through their death. Grant them peace at the
last and welcome them into your heavenly dominion. When our last hour shall come,
look not on our sins but accept us on the merits of our gracious redeemer, Jesus Christ.
O God, who is our hope, Hear our prayer.
Accept the prayers of your people, O God. Assure us anew that you give heed
to our cries and that your respond to our petitions according to your divine
will. Through Jesus Christ our Savior we pray. Amen.
The Peace
The peace of the Lord be always with you.
And also with you.

At 10:15: Musical Offering: "The Time for Turning"
Craig Courtney
~ please be seated to listen to the musical offering and use it as a time of prayer ~
To everything a season, to everything a time;
a moment to move forward and leave the past behind.
As summer turns to autumn and bids farewell to spring,
there comes a time for turning to every living thing.
The breezes change direction, the geese turn homeward bound.
The leaf turns from its clinging and falls upon the ground.
The flower turns from blooming to slumber in the snow.
And so to all a season, a time for letting go.
Now is the time for turning and this the place to start;
for yielding to the yearning, for changing of the heart.
A moment to surrender the things we should release,
and in forgiveness, peace, and in forgiveness, peace.
Offertory: Representatives of the congregation bring the peopleÊs offerings of bread and
wine, and money, to the celebrant. Please stand, if you are able, while the offerings are
presented and placed on the Altar.

BCP p. 369
The Lord be with you.
And also with you.
Lift up your hearts.
We lift them to the Lord.
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
It is right to give God thanks and praise.
Celebrant God of all power, Ruler of the Universe, you are worthy of glory and praise.
People
Glory to you for ever and ever.
Celebrant At your command all things came to be: the vast expanse of interstellar space,
galaxies, suns, the planets in their courses, and this fragile earth, our island home.
People
By your will they were created and have their being.
Celebrant From the primal elements you brought forth the human race, and blessed us
with memory, reason, and skill. You made us the rulers of creation. But we turned against
you, and betrayed your trust; and we turned against one another.
People
Have mercy, Lord, for we are sinners in your sight.
Celebrant Again and again, you called us to return. Through prophets and sages you
revealed your righteous Law. And in the fullness of time you sent your only Son, born of a
woman, to fulfill your Law, to open for us the way of freedom and peace.
People
By his blood, he reconciled us.
By his wounds, we are healed.
And therefore we praise you, joining with the heavenly chorus, with prophets, apostles, and
martyrs, and with all those in every generation who have looked to you in hope, to
proclaim with them your glory, in their unending hymn:
Celebrant and People:
At 8:00: Holy, holy, holy Lord,
God of power and might,
heaven and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna in the highest.

Sung at 10:15: Psallite Mass „Sanctus‰
Michael Joncas
The Celebrant continues
And so, Father, we who have been redeemed by him, and made a new people by water and
the Spirit, now bring before you these gifts. Sanctify them by your Holy Spirit to be the
Body and Blood of Jesus Christ our Lord.
On the night he was betrayed he took bread, said the blessing, broke the bread, and gave it
to his friends, and said, "Take, eat: This is my Body, which is given for you. Do this for the
remembrance of me."
After supper, he took the cup of wine, gave thanks, and said, "Drink this, all of you: This
is my Blood of the new Covenant, which is shed for you and for all for the forgiveness of
sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me."
Remembering now his work of redemption, and offering to you this sacrifice of
thanksgiving,
We celebrate his death and resurrection, as we await the day of his coming.
9
Lord God of our forbearers; God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; God of Sarah, Rebecca,
Rachel and Leah; God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ: Open our eyes to see your
hand at work in the world about us. Deliver us from the presumption of coming to this
Table for solace only, and not for strength; for pardon only, and not for renewal. Let the
grace of this Holy Communion make us one body, one spirit in Christ, that we may
worthily serve the world in his name.
Risen Lord, be known to us in the breaking of the Bread.
Accept these prayers and praises, Father, through Jesus Christ our great High Priest, to
whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, your Church gives honor, glory, and worship, from
generation to generation. AMEN.
The Lord's Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be thy Name,
hallowed be your name
thy kingdom come,
your kingdom come,
thy will be done,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
on earth as in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
Give us today our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those
as we forgive those
who trespass against us.
who sin against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
Save us from the time of trial,
but deliver us from evil.
and deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
For the kingdom, the power,
and the power, and the glory,
and the glory are yours,
for ever and ever. Amen.
now and for ever. Amen.
The Breaking of the Bread
The Celebrant breaks the consecrated Bread. A period of silence is kept.
At 8:00:
Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world:
have mercy on us.
Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world:
have mercy on us.
Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world:
grant us your peace.

Prayer after Communion: God of abundance, you have fed us with the bread of life
and the cup of salvation; you have united us with Christ and one another; and
you have made us one with all your people in heaven and on earth. Now send us
forth in the power of your Spirit, that we may proclaim your redeeming love to
the world and continue forever in the risen life of Christ our Savior. Amen.
Commissioning the Eucharistic Visitors
In the name of this congregation, I send you forth bearing these holy gifts, that those to
whom you go may share with us in the communion of ChristÊs body and blood.
We, who are many, are one body because we share one bread and one cup. Amen.
