As leaves continue to fall from the trees and the
calendar turns to November, we rejoice in the
Lord ALWAYS and in ALL WAYS.

We rejoice in the success of our fall sports teams
in which our boys soccer team won the district
championship on Oct. 29. We rejoice that our
girls volleyball team competed for district
championship for the first time in school history.
We rejoice as the girls swimming team and boys
and girls basketball teams kick off the winter
sports season. We pray for God’s blessings on all
of our athletes and coaches.
We rejoice in the joyful music provided by the
Saxony band and band students from Trinity,
St. Paul, UCLS, Immanuel, and Cape Christian
schools as they performed on our Mass Band
Day.
We rejoice in the talents of our drama students
as they present their dinner theater Nov. 20-22.
Please plan to attend and support the drama
program. I guarantee we will have great food
and an entertaining production.
November brings about the Thanksgiving holiday
and serves as a reminder to give thanks to our
Heavenly Father who has abundantly blessed us.
We ask that you continue to pray for the staff
and students of Saxony Lutheran High School in
our mission of “Sharing Christ and Shaping Lives.”

entrance off of Jackson Blvd. Students are encouraged to report to Mr. Wunderlich at 4:30 p.m. Students
chosen to the All-District Band will perform Nov. 15 at Cape Central High School and may audition for the
All-State Band on Dec. 6.
Student Council Events
Student Council is hosting a dodgeball tournament on Nov. 8. The tournament will begin at 1:00 p.m. The cost
is $5.00 per person. There will be team sign-up sheets available at school.
Drama Dinner Theater
Saxony Drama will present its annual Fall Dinner Theater, featuring four short Christmas–themed plays,
Fri., Nov. 21 at 6:00 p.m.; Sat., Nov. 22 at 6:00 p.m.; and Sun., Nov. 23 at 5:00 p.m. The evening will begin with
dinner provided by The Little Country Store in Jackson and will be followed by Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa
Claus, a heart-warming story based on the actual letter of a little girl to the The New York Sun newspaper in
1897. After a delicious dessert buffet, three short-but-hilarious plays will be performed: Clausarella, Santa vs.
the Garden Gnomes, and Grandma Remembers Something. Tickets are $15 and will be sold in advance
through the Saxony office (204-7555) beginning Nov. 3. Please join us for what promises to be a very
enjoyable evening!
Booster Club
The next Booster Club meeting will be Nov. 11 at 6:30 p.m. in the library. Hope to see you there!
Swimming
Congratulations to Ian Cameron for taking large steps toward qualifying for the State Championship Meet. If
that goal is not achieved this season it could certainly be achieved next season with continued work at the
pool. The girls swimming season begins with the first practice on Nov. 10 at 5:30 p.m. at Central Municipal Pool
in Cape Girardeau. Anyone interested in joining the team is welcome. The first meet for the team is not until
Dec. 9 but there will surely be a lot of activity at the pool preparing for that first meet and competition
throughout the season. Contact information for the Swim Team via email is [email protected].
Cross Country
The Saxony Lutheran cross country teams are wrapping up their season in early November with their district
meet at Farmington on Nov. 1 followed by the state meet in Jefferson City on Nov. 8. The girls team won the
ten school conference meet on Oct. 21 in a dramatic fashion. Saxony had two runners in the top ten— Grace
Hanebrink 7th 24:55 and Kristen Gruenwald 9th 25:27— for first team all-conference honors. Earning a medal
and all-conference honorable mention: Katie Richmond 14th 26:01 and Alexis Goodson 15th 26:02. Also running
well for the Lady Crusaders on a very challenging North Cape County Park Course— Rachael Koehler 18th
26:35, Abby Breite 23rd 28:53, Mia Ponder 25th 29:24, and Kat Wallhausen 33 rd 33:09. The Saxony ladies finished
with 47 points, closely followed by Oak Ridge and Woodland both with 49 points.
The boy’s team finished fourth led by Drew Zieba 16th 20:43, Jacob Yantis 28th 21:54, Gavin Brown 32nd 22:04,
Josh Vogel 38th 22:30, Jon Mueller 45th 23:43, Hayden Moll 46th 23:50, and Zach Woodney 55th 27:25. God has
blessed Saxony with many loving and talented students, and this year’s cross country runners are an
outstanding example of great Christian student athletes.

Development News
Our first annual Crusader Challenge Kettle Beef Dinner was an enormous success! We served 700
people on the evening of Oct. 27. Each class held a special fundraiser as part of the event.
Seniors conducted a car wash. Juniors helped with the Mini Fall Children’s Carnival. Sophomores
sold Crusader Challenge products. Freshmen held a bake sale. Many students helped serve food,
bus tables, and usher the crowds. Special thanks go out to Saxony parent John Fitzgerald who
prepared the delicious meal.
Watch for results and more photos from the 2014 Crusader Challenge in the December newsletter!

UPCOMING

The first quarter ended Oct. 18, and report cards were mailed only to those
who requested them. All grades are available on PlusPortals. Please
remember that all reports will be mailed at the end of the first semester. It is
also at this time that student GPAs are updated.

Congratulations to all those who made the Honor Roll this quarter! The list
of Honor Roll students can be found in this newsletter, and all are to be
commended. I challenge all students to raise at least one grade by the
end of the semester. If your student earned one or more low grades,
please work with him or her and the teachers to bring the grade up by the
end of the semester. Please contact me if you need help achieving
academic goals.

Last week sophomores took part in Aspire testing. We will use the results to
assess how individual students are achieving and how Saxony as a whole is
doing. Results will be shared with students in a classroom session before the
end of the semester.

I continue to meet with our juniors regarding college and career planning.
In October, we discussed a number of myths and misperceptions about
colleges, scholarships, and financial aid. In November, we will begin
learning how to search for great college matches.

In Old Testament, I have been working with sophomores and freshmen on
career issues using the Lutheran doctrine of vocation. In part, this states
that all (legal and moral) jobs can be God-pleasing. God places us in
various roles in life to be “masks of God” by loving and serving our
neighbors. We are also completing some interest and ability inventories
and other activities as we learn about the world of work and how each
student might use his or her God-given talents in the future.

Seniors should be hard at work on their college applications. I strongly
encourage each senior to have at least one application completed before
Thanksgiving. Please note that many schools have November or December
scholarship deadlines — SEMO’s, for example, is Dec. 1. Check with each
school to determine their deadlines.

Be aware that the Dec. 1 deadline is right after Thanksgiving break. Seniors
who want paperwork sent for December 1 deadline must have requests to
me no later than Nov. 14.

Dual credit information for second semester will be given to students soon.
Juniors and seniors who qualify may sign up for Statistics (MA155) or
Psychology (PY101) and seniors may choose Rhetorical Skills (EN140).
This English credit is in addition to the LA4 class taken by all seniors.

As always, I am happy to speak with any students and parents who have
questions or concerns. Have a blessed Thanksgiving!
