Canada’s only mountain rally, the Rocky
Mountain Rally, will be here this weekend,
Friday, October 31 and Saturday, November 1.
Rally cars will be set up in downtown Invermere on Friday between 10:30 and 11:30
am on Main Street in front of the Credit
Union. The official start will be from there.
The competitors then head out Westside
Road to Hawke Road (Brewer Creek) and
begin stages 1 and 2. Later in the day they
will be starting up Findlay Creek Road onto
Skookumchuk Creek Road and then Torrent Creek Road. Basically starting towards
Blue Lake but turning off and finishing at
Skookumchuk Pulp Mill.
Saturday’s legs of the race will be in the
Westside Road area West of Radium,
Mostly around Forster Creek, Dogleg Lake
and Hurst Creek.
You should go and check their website
www.rockymountainrally.com for exact
times and locations. You must be early to
every spot as the roads are closed during
the event. It is very exciting so get out
there if you can.
A talking dog walks into a bar and asks the
manager, “So, do you have any jobs available?”
“Wow,” says the manager. “Why don’t you
apply to the circus?”
“Why would the circus need a bartender?”
Free Beef
This Saturday, November 1, get up to
Home Hardware as it is their annual Customer Appreciation Day. That means great
deals throughout the store.
It also means free ‘Beef on a Bun’ for everyone beginning at 11 am and going ‘until
the beef is gone’.
I attend a lot of events that include food
and I have always been impressed by this
one. The Millers are there to serve up the
beef and it is always so incredibly tender
and tasty. Add a touch of mustard, horseradish or salt and pepper and you have a
delectable treat.
Don’t be shy. Get up to Home Hardware on
Saturday and enjoy a free lunch. Thanks to
Home Hardware for doing this.

Fish Trivia
This week’s Trivia Night at The Station
Neighbourhood Pub on Wednesday, October 29, will be ‘fishing themed’. Trivia
nights have been packed as we all like to
think we are smart. It starts at 7 pm.
Canadian fishing icon, the Dimestore Fisherman Jim Huey, will be on hand as they
are currently filming an episode in the Columbia Valley. Get to know Jim and his
crew and offer up your fishing advice.
There are always great times and great
prizes at the Trivia Nights. This week you
can win an Abu-Garcia fishing rod and
tackle bag. It is a fun night out and a great
chance for you and your friends to show
your stuff.

A gnome is in the garden destroying the
shrubbery. A house cat appears and asks,
“What are you?”
“I’m a gnome. I steal food from humans,
wreck their plants, make annoying sounds
at night and I love mischief. What is it that
you are?”
“Uh, it sounds like I’m another gnome,”
says the cat.
Halloween
This Friday, October 31 is Halloween. That
means there will be a lot of little ghost and
goblins running around in the evening trick
or treating.
It is one of the most fun and exciting evenings of the year for kids as they get to
dress up and get candy. For the parents,
well, it is a bit of an attempt at sugar consumption management. Good luck.
Please be very aware of the kids out there
if you are driving around that evening. And
parents, please get something reflective on
your kids’ costumes. Safety first and foremost always.
Kids please travel with a friend or two and
have a good look at your treats before you
get into eating them. Enjoy!

A great way to add some positive energy
into your life is to become a volunteer.
Helping someone always feels good and
by joining an organization that you enjoy to
help as a volunteer will allow you to feel
good as often as you like.
There are endless opportunities out there,
so you can pick something that is relevant
to your own beliefs. Youth sports, animals,
literacy, community, health, environment,
disabilities, seniors, athletics, arts and so
much more.
Many folks don’t think they have the time
but it is worth making the time. You will
feel good.
One of my favourite volunteer gigs is the
Red Cross Health Equipment Loan Program. We loan out wheelchairs, walkers,
crutches, etc. to people who are having
mobility issues due to an injury, surgery or
age. You feel great instantly as you are
helping someone on a personal level that
really could use the assistance.

Halloween Scavenger Hunt
The Station Neighbourhood Pub is hosting
their 2nd Annual Halloween Scavenger
Hunt this Friday, October 31. Last year
teams of 3 were sent out with their smart
phones to take photos posing in locations
that they had to find. Everyone had to be in
costume.
I am not sure what the format is this year,
but I would assume you should show up in
a costume. Entry is $5 per person. I know
that it was lots of fun last year and assume
it will be great this year as well. Call The
Station at 250-342-5557 to find out more.

Drop-In Curling
With the Olympics this past spring and all
of the other televised curling events, I
know that you are considering checking it
out. You might just be a bit nervous about
others judging your skill level so you want
a nice quiet time to try it.
Friday nights between 7 and 9 pm and
Tuesday afternoons from 2 to 4 pm is open
ice for drop-in curling times.
There is always someone around to give
you a bit of direction and all the equipment
needed is available for use at the Curling
Centre.
It is very affordable (just a few bucks) and
a lot more fun than you can imagine. Plus
it is a bit more difficult than they make it
look on the television.
The Curling Centre is fully licensed so you
can enjoy a beverage before or after you
try it out.

Halloween is soon upon us. In less than a
week the thin barrier between our world
and the underworld will crumble, releasing
hundreds upon thousands of ghosts,
ghouls and other creatures into the world
of the living.
In case you didn’t get it from the past two
sentences, I really love Halloween. By far
my favourite holiday, and this year all the
horror and terror will be brought to Invermere; trick or treaters beware.
But with all the terror, fear, and horrid creatures flying around, Halloween is nothing in
comparison to the horrors of maultaschen.
Prepare to Vote
Municipal elections are coming up on November 15. Please take the time to do
some research and figure out which candidate(s) are best suited to your values.
The term for the successful candidates will
be 4 years. That is plenty of time to see
some growth and improvement in our communities but we need the right people in
place to do this.
It is important that you do vote so please
do your homework.

The 4th Agreement
‘Always Do Your Best’
Your best can vary depending on your
health or situation but you should always
do your best at the time. That will eliminate
self-judgment, self-abuse and regret.
Doing your best means enjoying the action
without considering the reward. Pleasure
comes from doing what you like in life and
having fun, not from how much you get
paid. Enjoy the path traveled and the destination will take care of itself.
Live in the moment and release the past. It
allows us to be fully alive right now, enjoying what is present without worrying about
the past or the future. Have patience with
yourself and practice forgiveness.
If you do your best always, transformation
will occur.

New Puppy
I was home with stomach flu the same
week we got our new little puppy. My wife
called to ask how I was doing.
“I’m okay, I guess,” I said. “But guess who
pooped in the kitchen?”
Daylight Savings
This Saturday night, at 2 am (Sunday
morning, November 2, really), don’t forget
to set your clocks back 1 hour. ‘Spring
ahead, Fall back’, is the saying to help
remember.’
This will give us an extra hour of daylight in
the evenings, which will be nice. It is going
to be pretty dark in the mornings though.
We used to do this a bit earlier in the year
and the kids would get a bit more daylight
for Halloween. I wonder why the ‘powers
that be’ have made this change. I also
wonder how Creston, B.C. and Saskatchewan get to not change their times.
Library Board
The Invermere Public Library is looking to
fill positions on the Library Board. It is a 2year volunteer position that begins on
January 1, 2015.
If you enjoy reading and value the importance of literacy in our society, then this
could be the position for you. It is a great
and important way to give back to the community.

Wrap Attack Back
Wraps are back at Fairmont Pizza & Ice
Cream Parlour. Choose from donairs,
chicken souvlaki, chicken Caesar or pulled
pork. They are all really tasty.
And kudos to these folks. John, Margo and
Vern remove these items through the summer to accommodate Tony’s Greek Grill.
But they do a great job of them so many
folks are disappointed.
But they are back on the menu for this
winter. Try one. You will definitely not be
disappointed.
Rockies Hockey
The Columbia Valley Rockies pulled off a
couple of exciting wins at home last week.
Both games were very close and left the
fans wanting more.
We will have to wait a bit for the next home
game. The Rockies are on the road for
their next 7 games. They visit Kimberley,
Spokane, Nelson, Castlegar, Grand Forks,
Beaver Valley and Creston.
When they return, the Rockies will host the
North Okanagan Knights on Friday, November 14. Let’s hope they have a few
more points in the standings when they
come back.
Good work by all the fans who have been
so supportive. Having a nice crowd certainly helps the team with inspiration

Wood Pellets
Wood heat is a great way to go and many
valley residents have a modern, wood pellet stove. RONA has stocked up on wood
pellets. They are selling the 18.1 kg bags
for $4.99. Or you can buy a whole pallet of
pellets (60 bags) for only $299.99.
Rumour has it that the suppliers of the
pellets in Canada are having a tough time
finding the raw materials. That is another
reason to take advantage of RONA’s deal.
