Sunday School
Sunday School is offered for all ages between our 9:00
am and 11:00 am worship services from 10:10 am to
10:55 am. The classes are designed to be age appropriate so that we all can deepen our faith in Jesus Christ.
Holy Eucharist/Communion
Holy Eucharist, also known as Communion, is open
to all of the baptized of all denominations. The
Episcopal Church has an open table and you are
invited to participate as you feel comfortable. The
ushers will direct you forward to receive the sacrament. To receive the Eucharist, place your right
palm over your left and you will be given the Bread;
the Wine will be offered and you may guide the chalice
to your lips. If you prefer not to drink from it, leave the
wafer on your palm and the chalice bearer will dip it
in the cup and place it in your mouth. If you wish to
receive a Blessing in lieu of the Elements, simply cross
your arms over your chest.
Children and Nursery Care
We love children and we invite them to worship with
us. We also offer a professionally staffed nursery for all
children up through 7 years old from 8:45am to 12:30pm.
The nursery is located in the Education Building past the
reception desk.
Cell Phones
Please, turn your cell phones off so that they do not
disturb you or those around you during worship.
Gluten Free communion wafers are available at the Lectern Communion Station.
Gluten Free emblems are available in the
Narthex so that you can identify yourself
to the person administering communion at
that station. These wafers are made from
rice and soy.

Today’s Music
Liturgy We Live
Today’s organ prelude and postlude are based on the
great hymn “Sleepers wake! a voice astounds us” (No.
61 in our Hymnal). The prelude is by Johann Sebastian
Bach (1685-1750) who made this transcription for organ solo with music from Cantata 140. The postlude,
by Paul Manz, treats the tune as a dialog between the
big Tuba stop of the organ and the rest of the organ.
Manz (1919-1009) served the Lutheran church as
recitalist, composer, teacher and leader in worship.
He was Cantor Emeritus at the Evangelical Lutheran
Church of Saint Luke, Chicago, Illinois; as well as
Cantor Emeritus of Mount Olive Lutheran Church in
Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was the director of the
newly established Paul Manz Institute of Church Music, and was Professor Emeritus of Church Music at
Christ Seminary Seminex at the Lutheran School of
Theology at Chicago.

Some dioceses within the Anglican communion can be
very large while others are quite small. The Diocese
of Cyprus and the Gulf covers several countries, while
the Diocese of Sodor and Man covers just the Isle of
Man (221 square miles). Some populous dioceses are
divided into areas with each assigned to a suffragan
bishop who remain suffragans until the appointing
bishop retires. For example, the Bishop of Toronto has
suffragans assisting him in four geographical divisions.
Another alternative is for a bishop to appoint an assisting coadjutor bishop who will become the diocesan
bishop on the bishop’s retirement. In some parts of the
Anglican communion, archdeacons are named to assist the bishop in administrative functions, and they are
the most senior clergy in that diocese. In the Episcopal
Church, the senior priest of a cathedral is called the
dean. Before 2000, some persons who held this position were called provosts. Deans are assisted by canons
or, formerly, prebendaries. In the Scottish Episcopal
Church, the senior priest of a cathedral is called provost. In the Anglican Church of Canada, a cathedral’s
senior priest is known as the rector of the cathedral and
dean of the diocese.
Hymn Notes
Rejoice! rejoice, believers - Hymnal 68
Laurenti, considered one of the finest of pietistic hymn
writers, wrote a set of texts and tunes for the entire
church year. This hymn, based on Matthew 25:1-13
(the story of the wise and foolish virgins) was intended for a Sunday in Trinity season, but it usually
is included in the Advent section. It is a call for us
to be prepared to meet the Bridegroom (Jesus) whose
coming is imminent.

Lift up your heads, ye mighty gates - Hymnal 436
This is a famous paraphrase of Psalm 24, and reveals
a spirit of praise and hope unexpected from the depths
of the dreadful Thirty Years’ War. Its theme is the
preparation for the Messiah’s coming.

Saint Nicholas Guild Meeting
AA @ Saint Paul’s
Saint Paul’s provides space for a weekly meeting of
Alcoholics Anonymous on Tuesdays at 12:10 pm.
These meetings are open to any member of the community, alcoholic or nonalcoholic, who is interested in
AA’s 12 step program of recovery. The only obligation is that of not disclosing the names of AA members
outside the meeting. These meetings will be held in the

The November Saint Nicholas Guild Meeting will be
held on Tuesday, November 11th beginning at 6:30 pm
at the Lindstrom Home located at 725 Belmar Drive
Edmond, OK 73025. The meeting will be a pot luck so
please bring a dish to share.
At this meeting as we will be electing the 2015 Saint
Nicholas Guild Officers and will be planning for the
Saint Nicholas Guild reception. We hope to see many

Are you in the mood to read a good mystery or adventure story as cooler weather sets in? Check the St.
Paul’s library in the Parlor where we have a large variety of “good reads” by well known authors. Also
find books in all categories: spiritual, self-help, travel,
hobbies, etc. Thank you to all who have donated books
as well as thanks to all who take books to borrow and
return or pass on to others OR simply keep. Since we
want all books to have a chance to be read, books will
remain on the shelves for about 6 months, and then be
donated to the YWCA Women’s Shelter or the Jesus
House to make room for other books now in storage.

we can see more clearly the treasures and the challenges of our lives through God’s eyes. This short course,
which will introduce the Ignatian Examen, is open to
everyone. The focus will be on Parenting of Children.
